Summerfest, Art Walk, Point Defiance and Glassroots
Tonight I'm performing at Art Walk at Embellish. This will be a solo performance - just me and my little guitar. Saturday I perform with Bob Crow on electric guitar at Summerfest in Fort Steilacoom Park in Lakewood at 2 pm. Sunday Bob and I will perform at McCabes downtown Tacoma with Deborah (Ritchie) Page at 7 pm. I hope all my downtown Tacoma friends will join me at Embellish and at McCabes.
This week I finally put my graphic design portfolio online. Its not very fancy but its only meant to give a potential employer some idea of my skills. If you want to check it out (or maybe give it a critique) go to www.angelajossy.com.
I also made this:
I think its a subconscious representation of how I feel about downtown Tacoma. Downtown Tacoma has become this place unto itself - an island so to speak - where urban pioneers live and work, buy organic produce at farmers markets, walk, bike, link and scooter themselves to work. They plant secret gardens on their rooftops and party in warehouses after dark. They blog and paint and write songs and poetry. And they make wicked chalk love in the afternoon. Soon I hope I will be one of them. I'm on the hunt for a live/work space downtown.
Tonight while I'm singing songs by coldplay, radiohead, alanis and angela jossy, some nice people in Ruston will be talking about whether or not to hire me to help out with the Point Defiance Music Festival. Any job with the words "music festival" attached to it is something I'm definitely very interested in. Fingers crossed!
Speaking of festivals I'm working on a couple of ideas for Glassroots Festival right now.
Idea #1: Decorated Doors - local artists will be invited to decorate a used or otherwise donated door that we will auction off at a fabulous party in July. The doors have to be usable - even if they are just linked together to make a room divider. If you or a really a talented artist you know would like to get involved please let me know. My email address is angela.jossy (at) gmail (dot) com.
Idea #2: I want to have a grassy area (about 50 ft by 30 ft) in the center of the festival so we can put a kiddie pool and some lawn chairs around it. I want people to sit down and hang out at the festival instead of just walking through and leaving. This is meant to be a party. I've planned a terrific line up of bands. I am hoping to find a landscape artist who can roll out some grass for us and put up their little sign advertising their services. Do you know anybody who owns or works for a landscape company who might like to do this? My email address is angela.jossy (at) gmail (dot) com.
Idea #3: I'd like to find a chalk art expert that will teach a workshop the morning of the Glassroots Art Festival (Aug. 24) and then have a day long chalk competition during the festival. Since the festival will be in the big parking lot next to the purple Embellish building we'll have plenty of sidewalk and pavement to work with all around the building. Instead of only having one hour to perfect their entry, they'll have all day.
I'd be interested in what you have to say about any/all of these ideas. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Glassroots is also looking for volunteers.
