Jump in and keep on swimmin'

The waters here in Tacoma are fine.

There is definitely no shortage of things to do in Tacoma. Every day (and definitely every weekend) there are bands to see, parties to go to, restaurants to eat in, art to see, happy hours to partake in, dancing, singing, acting, comedy, DJ's and creative cocktails to sample. And that's just what's happening DOWNTOWN! If you were to include the entire county it might make you dizzy.

They say 99% of life is just about showing up and in Tacoma, business is being conducted in coffeeshops, restaurants, bars and parties. In the corporate circles the good old boys meet up on the golf course or the country club bar but in my circles its the party scene where everything happens. Get invited to the right party, make the right friends and you could actually find your business increasing exponentially without really trying.

This should come as no surprise. People like doing business with people they know and trust. Everybody with any decency is trying to shop local now. Guess what, YOU'RE local. :)

Tacoma is alive despite the recession and lack of jobs. I actually have found MORE opportunities these last couple of years then ever before - and they are opportunities to do things I actually like doing! Sure, traditional jobs (with benefits and salaries) are tough to get but freelance jobs are a plenty because people still need to get things done even though they can't afford to hire someone full time. Last month was my busiest month yet. And I love the people I get to work with.

How did I do it? I just decided to get involved - SHOW UP! Even when the TV beckoned and I just felt like staying home. I go to parties, events and business networking meetings and I make new friends and I look for ways to help people - even when I'm not sure where its going to lead. I've learned to adapt to the new paradigm and an amazing thing happened - my whole life was transformed for the better. I moved downtown to a smaller much cheaper place. I drive less and walk more. I have new friends and new activities. I work out now! I belong to this amazing spa called Club Biella and I manage to feel pampered and get myself to workout all the time. It's incredible. (If you join, please mention my name). But I digress, I want different things then I used to and I feel a lot more emotionally healthy. I have a motto to have less and live more. I don't feel like I have to be perfect to be loved and respected by my friends. I don't need expensive things, a big house or any traditional symbols of success. All I need is my spectacular friends and this magic city of destiny. So if you want to know my secret to success, its simply this - get involved and look for ways to be of service. If you do it for the right reasons, it will always enhance your life.

Here are a few upcoming projects you could participate in or help out with:

I'm looking for footage of Tacoma things, events, people, landmarks and etc. I'd like to have a silent film of sliced together footage of Tacoma-centric things and could include some still photos too. I want it to play for 2-3 hours at an upcoming event at Rialto March 18th. Anybody wanna help me with this?

I'm looking for a computer lab classroom to teach 3 classes (social network marketing, how to sell art online and managing group communications online using Google Groups and Calendar).  If that doesn't work out, I'd like to borrow one of this projectors that hooks to your laptop so I can teach the class at Speakeasy.

I'm looking for someone to sponsor a couple of generators for a locally focused festival on July 4th. Or better yet someone with an alternative power source?

We are having potluck dinners at Speakeasy every Thursday evening from 6-9 pm. Come down, bring your own plate and silverware. Bring dinner food. Eat. Create. Play. Make music.

Speakeasy Book Club - First meeting Saturday Feb. 27th at 1 pm at Speakeasy Arts Cooperative - bring two books from your personal library that blew your mind. Explain why you loved them. Trade. Return the books Saturday March 27th and bring another book from home. Trade again.

I'm looking for a shuttle bus to borrow or rent for Art Walk March 18, April 15th, May 20th .. etc. I might start selling tickets in advance to get enough money together to rent one. If you wanna come a long for this ride let me know

I'm looking for a large RV to borrow July 3-5. It's going to be a VIP space during a festival.

I'm looking for artists who want to create some ram or fire themed art for the Aries Party April 3rd. Send me a description of what you'd like to do. FYI - We can't have any actual flame in the building - not even a candle - not even incense.

During our grand opening on Feb. 18th everyone has a chance to draw and paint on our paper-covered floor - almost like the Frost Park Chalk Off only it wont be washed away a few days later and you might be able to take your work home with you.
We have a super fun raffle planned and one lucky winner will get the chance to throw a party of their choosing at Speakeasy Arts Cooperative!

Thanks for all your support,
