Whatever will be, will be

As you might know, I just returned from a 4 day vacation and even though that isn't a lot of time, it feel like I've been gone for weeks because my list of things to do is so BIG! But when I read it I feel very blessed to have such a full life with so many interesting people in it. I think I've mentioned before my addiction to lists. Its the only way for me to feel sane and in control of my ever-changing life. Today I made a list of my current and upcoming projects and I have to say I'm pretty excited about all of them.

You might not be aware of this but I've stepped back a little bit in my role at Speakeasy Arts Cooperative because its been almost a year now and I think we are ready to start working as a true co-op with more responsibility on each member. I'm very happy to say that we have a very strong team and I feel confident now that they are taking on the roles that are necessary to keep it going. I'm still there but in more of an advisory capacity and as a facilitator. We are approaching the end of our 2nd 6 month lease and once again we will be counting heads to see if we have enough members to meet the financial responsibility of our wonderful space. We are currently short of our 15 member requirememt and this has put a strain on our ability to keep up with our expenses. We are trying to recruit new members who are strong both in their craft and in their commitment to the success of the co-op.  My dream is for us to become a federal non-profit and to be paid a salary to run Speakeasy. I've worked there for no pay except the occasional venue rental (and soda sales) this whole time. I wish I could commit 100% of my energy toward making it the greatest experience my artists ever have and the funnest place in Tacoma to hang out too. I want Speakeasy to touch lives, warm hearts and inspire all. But I also have to survive and keep a comfortable home for me and my daughter. Its a tough balancing act but what is life if you don't push yourself to the maximum of your capacity? :)

I don't know what will happen with Speakeasy after October. I hope it will be bigger and better but it might also become nothing but a fond memory. Only time will tell. I think the majority of members would say that they will fight for it until the bitter end and I feel the same way so don't count us out just yet.

Here’s what I’m working on right now:

1)      Websites for World Affairs Council Tacoma, Peloton LLC, Elks on Broadway and Broadway’s Best Antiques

2)      Organizing and promoting ART BUS September

3)      Managing September’s Third Thursday Artists Market

4)      Producing the Radio8Ball Tacoma TV show

5)      Overseeing the management of Speakeasy Arts Cooperative and strategic planning for its future

6)      Planning the next ART DOORS auction to benefit Tacoma Art Place and Speakeasy

7)      Planning the Love Squared Acoustic Dinner Party

8)      Planning some art/business classes for Speakeasy members (and guests)

If you would like to volunteer to help with some of the events listed above please let me know. There is a lot to be done and it’s a great way to meet new people and be a part of something amazing.
