CREDO Action "End of Bush" Party
Be the Change You Want to See
END OF BUSH / BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE PARTY
We will be meeting at the Mad Hat Tea Company, 1130 S Commerce from 2 - 4 pm (or later?), Sunday, November 23rd. Location is accessible. No pets, please.
Mad Hat is located on Commerce between S 11th and S 13th. It is accessible from Commerce. Not sure if the back door off Broadway will be open on a Sunday. Since there’s not a lot of parking, consider taking the Link Light Rail from the Tacoma Dome parking lot. Get off at the Convention Center stop and walk two blocks north.
Come and celebrate the opportunity for change that is coming to our country and world. Yes, we can do a happy dance for the end of the Bush years, but let's put a positive face on this party. I see this as a chance to network with other community activists. Bring your brochures, business cards, etc. and tell us what you are doing or planning to do to help change our country and our world.
Drop in! Buy a cup of tea! And get energized! (No charge, but please buy something or make a donation for our hosts. They are opening on Sunday to accommodate this gathering on short notice when the other plans fell through! CREDO will kick in $100 to get the ball rolling.)

"Eat the View" Petition
Kitchen gardens instead of lawn!
Hi, folks,
KUOW had their local garden experts on this morning and one mentioned this great campaign to get the next president to dig up the White House lawn and plant a garden for their use and for local food banks. I think it's a great idea.
Where can we do that locally? Maybe the Esplanade? Fireman's Park? Wright Park? Maybe some local landscapers could specialize in kitchen garden plots for busy homeowners with space, desire for eating locally, but no time to maintain them. Beats mowing lawns and spraying ornamentals! I'm available to work for anyone wanting to do that.
Check out this website and sign the petition!
See you Friday at Frost Park.

Be My Guest
Party at Frost Park Friday
Instead of the usual indoor cake and punch stand around send off, I've chosen to throw my own retirement/60th birthday party in conjuction with the Friday Chalk Art competition. Pinwheel Catering will be providing yummy noshies, ice tea and lemonade, and desserts to go with the lunches you bring. Hopefully some of my City coworkers will wander down too. I want them to see the fabulous artwork and gain an appreciation - as I have - for some of the wonderful young activists in this great town of ours. You give me hope for the future! So please celebrate with me while I celebrate all of us. Tomorrow noon to one or until the cookies are gone!

ICE Detention Center Plans Expansion
Am I the only one who didn't know?
I had a conversation a few days ago with a consultant in Florida. She is working on an project to document the impact to the environment (including traffic, etc.) of a planned expansion of the detention center down on E. J St on the TideFlats. Apparently they are already discussing this with the Council, but it was the first I'd heard. Personally, I'd like to see this place go from 500 beds to zero rather than up to 1000. This is all "public knowledge" but I wonder how much of the public is aware of it.

Cohousing community
Looking for members in Tacoma!
We have an opportunity to turn a remodeled apartment building and two adjacent lots into a condo-style, cohousing community. This is at S Earnest S. Brazill (12th) and J. Units would be affordable. There are 12 units plus an office unit. The two adjoining properties could be renovated or replaced with new, townhouse-type units. Decisions are made by the members. We can create a welcoming community in which to grow up or grow older! To learn more about cohousing in general or this one in particular, check out the link before. http://directory.ic.org/records/?action=view&page=view&record_id=6216
What we need are enthusiastic members able to purchase their own unit (est. at $125-175,000 for 1-2 bedroom units). Available as rentals in the next few weeks with conversion to condos when we get enough members. We also need an innovative-thinking mortgage company to help us buy the properties from the present owner.
