Feed>>The Melon?

How hungry are you?

Hey folks,

As a Tacoma based blog, we, at The Melon, were wondering if all of our content not just our Tacoma specific works could find their way on the Feed's front page and if that would offend anyone.

If you'd like to taste more Melon, just say so in the comments. Perhaps the almighty Kevin will hear your call and grant us full feed powers.

Count me in for a vote. I'm having so much trouble trying to format my own FT blog I'd like to just sit back and read the pro's like you.

by intacoma on 2/12/2009 @ 8:31pm
eh, if it doesnt relate to tacoma it shouldnt be on the front page...

Sort of the point... Love ya elliot but maybe you should try and drum up traffic some other way ie twitter

or digg

I think the 'it has to be about tacoma' is a sleepy argument. I think we'd be ok to expand our definition to include national topics from the perspective of people living in Tacoma.

When Mr. 5views looks outside sees the snow and concludes that climate change caused by human pollution is a liberal conspiracy to undermine the bible and teach evolution... well that is a national (or even global) topic not necessarily 'about tacoma' but some how makes the front page only to be mocked by childish liberal playbook-brainwashed crybabies.

see FIG. A:

reasoning

as you can see all topics are connected on a cosmic level.

The Melon's twitter:

-I'm going to the bathroom now.
-I'm still in the bathroom
-The toilet seat was cold but now it is warm
-I'm reading one of the shampoo bottles. Magazines take too much effort and I'm a power shitter.
-I wonder what's making me so constipated
-There we go.
-Oh shit! Out of toilet paper.

In the past we've tried are best to post only Tacoma-centric pieces on the feed, but most of our writers are living in Tacoma and do offer somewhat of a Tacoma perspective.

I'll admit it's certainly a way to drum up readership, though I do find a lot of non-Tacoma stuff on the main page here and there. It's your call though, this is everyone's feed and you should have the right to avoid the occasional Melon bonus post.

I think Kevin is out of town at the moment. His Facebook status update says:

Kevin Freitas will sleep in Vegas tonight and hit Utah tomorrow. 14 minutes ago

Party at Kevin's house!

@A-Joss: Hahaha, but do I ever truly leave?

Thanks for breaching this topic Elliot. I've got a few initiatives I want to conquer in the next month or so and getting some new blogs added (got your back NiN!) and a couple other features to help bring some more voices to the table. Am I being cryptic? How's this for a cross-promotion: Come to next week's FeedTacoma Feed breakfast at PSP and we'll talk more.

Cheers all!

In all seriousness, I think F>>T should be about the T - Tacoma related only. Full RSS aggregation only makes the relevant content harder to find. I use F>>T to find out what's happening in Tacoma, having more stuff getting posted would make me want to come to the site less, unless I could filter out specific posters that just dump their content onto F>>T.

That's more work for KF, and I think for the same result as we've got now.

I am always interested in reading about any melon related news.

by intacoma on 2/13/2009 @ 9:22am
If you like a specific site learn the url :P I honestly dont want to see FT turn into myspace bulletins

by NineInchNachos on 2/13/2009 @ 10:03am
intacoma makes a good point. myspace bulletins.... uhhhh (*shiver in fetal position*)

(@Morgan: Thanks for the tech help.)
Personally, my wish list would include the ability to set up personal settings that would taylor my main page to only include feeds from sources I choose and filter out ones like say, 5 Views. There are some I don't care to read, and some I always want to read. Granted there's a lot of ones in-between, too. But that might defeat the purpose, too.

by marumaruyopparai on 2/13/2009 @ 11:47pm
A liberal media outlet spawned by students and alumni of a University in Tacoma shouldn't have their posts featured on feed Tacoma? I've read posts by gentleman such as Fredo, RR, and his conservative holiness Mr. FiveViews that cover issues of NATIONAL concern that were featured here for no other reason than they are

a. from Tacoma

b. providing this information for people in Tacoma and

c. are posing questions for people in Tacoma.

I don't know where Electric Elliot lives now for certain but I'm pretty sure it's somewhere in Tacoma.

Maybe no one who lives outside of Tacoma should have the power to interact with this forum. Perhaps I should be blocked. Perhaps Mr. Freitas should be condemned for having ever left Tacoma in the first place, if Tacoma is so great, why did he go to Vegas? In fact, the topic of this post doesn't even mention Tacoma, I'm not sure people should even be reading it.

Anyway, that's not why I'm posting tonight, I'm posting to address exhibit a (fig. a, seen above, posted my Mr. Anderson). I simply can't help but notice that masturbation is larger than the moon yet smaller than the earth (I guess that makes sense). I lack the intellectual insight to fully grasp the significance of this phenonenon, but I find it fascinating none the less.

by Mofo from the Hood on 2/14/2009 @ 2:22am
Well here we all are, thrown into an impersonal universe; hurled into Tacoma and not by choice. But when, by sheer accident, we are forced to face the consequences of reading the obscure ramblings of our neighbor, The Melon, or forced by mysterious temptation to masturbate, then I beseech you in the name sanity, follow your innermost drive for self-preservation!

by NineInchNachos on 2/14/2009 @ 10:40am
marumaruyopparai, Mofo from the Hood you guys make comments worth reading.

thanks for illustrating the absurdity of the 'must be about tacoma' rule.

by AngelaJossy on 2/14/2009 @ 11:57am
Every rule has at least one exception. I vote yes to allowing the Melon. (if that matters)

by fredo on 2/14/2009 @ 4:29pm
The feedTacoma postings would be more interesting if they were just about Tacoma.

Having stated that, I was informed a year ago that the site was to give Tacoman's a place to discuss anything they wanted. Therefore, I frequently introduce topics which are of interest to me, albiet not Tacoma-related. I'm not seeking agreement from anybody, just healthy and spirited discussions.

Thanks to the people who frequently respond: NiN, Angie, Mofo, KF, intacoma, Dave L, Ensie, Twisty, Erik, Escaping Slave, Jen, Chris, SeeJane, Marum, Spencer, Ixia, Droid, Morgan, tacoma1, scout, Izenman and of course, Crenshaw. If I didn't acknowledge you by name, sorry. This was off the top of my head.

by Crenshaw Sepulveda on 2/14/2009 @ 4:44pm
They say that all politics are local. I think the people of Tacoma provide an interesting perspective on all things, statewide, national, or even international. We bring the world to our doorstep with the Port of Tacoma. Our military facilities provide those that are all over the world doing the bidding of our government. Unlike Las Vegas, what happens in Tacoma doesn't stay in Tacoma. As much as Tacoma seems to be a smaller city, her reach is around the world and the world reaches into Tacoma.
