|Perhaps the winner of an episode should be morally compelled to provide a prize for the next week's chalk off?|
by L.S.Erhardt on 9/25/2009 @ 12:52am
and what's up with "only 4 left"? I'll be out there until the El Niño monsoons start...
by L.S.Erhardt on 9/25/2009 @ 1:02am
|Oh, and just a reminder to everyone... bring sunglasses to protect your retinas from the AWESOME I am about to unleash upon our Fair City...|
by Erik on 9/25/2009 @ 1:07am
|With only four episodes left, we will soon need to figure out who wins Season II at Frost Park with the most individual wins.|
by L.S.Erhardt on 9/25/2009 @ 1:14am
|Is there a post season?
Is there a play-off?
Why even have a limit?
by NineInchNachos on 9/25/2009 @ 9:16am
|well last season we called it quits due to the increasingly crappy weather; chalking in the rain is neigh impossible. 30 seemed like a nice round number. plus other feed tacoma folks were getting chalk posting burnout... moving to the season format seemed like a good compromise.
by Erik on 9/25/2009 @ 9:23am
Later in the year, the weather starts getting really bad, although I think we started earlier this year.
There is always room though for a post season,
by Earthdaughter on 9/25/2009 @ 12:10pm
|And of course, if today is the 26th episode, there are four more AFTER this one. Five weeks out will be October 30 so maybe we can have a Halloween/Samhein Bonus Week and then see how folks feel about chalking into November!|
by NineInchNachos on 9/25/2009 @ 1:16pm
|I have some amazing photos, will post late tonight.
Lots of new faces. Beautiful day!

|Some background... the red, blue and white featured in my piece this week are hand-made by yours truly. So, if they work well, I'll be whipping up some more.
And yes, I vote for Mayor McCheese... the only candidate who has what it takes to keep McDonaldsland under his draconian thumb!
by The Jinxmedic on 9/25/2009 @ 2:52pm
|Anyone have any inside scoop on that last minute meeting with E. Anderson, who apparently doesn't seem to want to listen to those who have the means, abilities, and plans to save the Luzon?|
by Erik on 9/25/2009 @ 3:24pm
|Looks like the Luzon has less than 16 hours to live.|
by KevinFreitas on 9/25/2009 @ 3:26pm
|@Jinx: It's a goner. Complete shame.|
by Erik on 9/25/2009 @ 3:54pm
|In memory of the Luzon, I vote for Burnham & Root.|
by NineInchNachos on 9/25/2009 @ 4:07pm
|it's really Burnham... the heat was messing with my mind. all kinds of misspellings in mine this time.|
by Crenshaw Sepulveda on 9/25/2009 @ 4:34pm
by aslanenlisted on 9/25/2009 @ 4:42pm
|Mark's is awesome but I have to vote Adam the Alien|
by NEAL on 9/25/2009 @ 4:44pm
|I vote for Burnham & Root.|
Or, I vote for Mr. RR Anderson.
by Adam the Alien on 9/25/2009 @ 4:45pm
|RR, this week's promo image is the best image of all time. OF ALL TIME!
...Okay, I'm done. But seriously, I do think that's the best promo image yet.
Also, my Interrupting Kanye meme usage is entirely the fault of Molly Lewis and ckwright (Chris), who told me to do that when I called them to ask what the fuck to draw this week.
by NineInchNachos on 9/25/2009 @ 4:49pm
|I was disappointed Molly did not bring her Ukulele|
by Gini Ruth on 9/25/2009 @ 4:50pm
|I vote for Burnham and Root as well.|
by Adam the Alien on 9/25/2009 @ 4:54pm
|I was disappointed Molly did not bring her Ukulele|
Perhaps in the future. She and Chris were running late, and stopped by Infinite Soups on the way. Then apparently forgot which street Frost Park was on.
I wouldn't bet on ukulele bringing for now, though...she had to come straight from a class and depart immediately to another class, the way her fall Friday schedule works out.
by daydreamer on 9/25/2009 @ 5:28pm
|I vote for Kenji this time. I like Mayor McCheese though too.|
by MarkMonlux on 9/25/2009 @ 5:28pm
|As much as I enjoyed drawing a giant robotic head coming out of the ground, and thought it looked truly awesome in person, I'm going to cast my vote for the 'on theme' work of RR Anderson. Kudos, sir.|
by Adam the Alien on 9/25/2009 @ 5:34pm
|I *really* want that shirt, but Mark's piece is my personal favorite - I mean, come on...it's a robot. Better, it's what a robot looks like through the lens of a drugged-out 60's/70's film. I vote Robo-Mark.|
by Earthdaughter on 9/25/2009 @ 5:40pm
|Much as I like a "themed" Chalk Off, sometimes the one that grabs me is random. This week I vote for Kenji's entries. That bottom one he did in about 10-15 minutes after he'd finished the vertical one on the wall. They look like botanical plates in old textbooks. Also liked the Tree of Life by Gini.|
by Erik on 9/25/2009 @ 6:07pm
|Pretty cool entries today, one of the best for weeks.|
by crockawaddy on 9/25/2009 @ 6:16pm
|So it was called the Luzon Building?. I always knew it as the Fun Circus. Spent my teenage years transferring buses in fron of it and peering through the windows at the risque paintings on the the wall and the colorful denzins of that supposed place of sin.|
by crockawaddy on 9/25/2009 @ 6:17pm
|Flowers or robot? Hmmm. I agree with Adam - gotta vote for the Monlux robot.|
by izenmania on 9/25/2009 @ 8:20pm
I love what Mark did with the colors, starting from the assortment of colors from weeks of drawings upon drawings.
by SheLives on 9/25/2009 @ 8:48pm
|While I'm blown away by Kenji's pieces (and I'm thrilled to see another talent enter the race), I've got to go with Mark's robot. He did a magnificent job working with the blend of colors remaining on the wall and incorporating them into another fun, creative robot ready to cause chaos. I'm all for the chaos. And the robots. |
I vote for Mark.
by NineInchNachos on 9/25/2009 @ 9:14pm
Mark Monlux has chalked the greatest robot rendering in Frost Park history. I doubt I will ever see another robot so beautiful.
My tribute to the long dead architects. I couldn't spell anything right I was so upset today.
My old housemate Gini. This is her first chalk art entry. Admirable job I say. Capitol!
A true urban artist. Very nice. I've never seen these done in chalk before.
Really fits with the Yellow Submarine robot.
Mr. O'Tool being a smart aleck. Making fun of plato's utopia Benevolent Dictator idea
Can't go wrong with pink floyd.
adam the alien with his pop culture references... I don't under stand them. I should watch TV more.
Sometimes I just like to watch the people. I bet this is what it is like in Seattle all the time.
by tacomachickadee on 9/25/2009 @ 10:13pm
|I vote for the monlux robot.|
by KevinFreitas on 9/25/2009 @ 10:22pm
|Great chalking and welcome to newcomers Kenji and Gini! Definitely a fan of Kenji's lean but striking style and Gini brought true grace to Frost Park with her color and simple B&W forms. Did enjoy the meme Adam but I vote Monlux for the color and robot awesomeness! I'd love to see a real robot made in its likeness. Off-season, non-chalk project? Hmm...|
by Adam the Alien on 9/25/2009 @ 10:27pm
|adam the alien with his pop culture references... I don't under stand them. I should watch TV more. |
Psh. I don't watch TV. I have the Internet. Basically, Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech for best video or something at the MTV Video Music Awards, took the mic from her and insisted that Beyonce had the best video of all time. Original footage:
Obviously, the Internet can't let something like this go by (which was probably the point of the stunt), and the LOLcat-ers got a hold of it. Insta-meme!
It was also applied to a number of fake mirrored websites...
...aaaand a leaked video clip from an off the record portion of an interview has Obama laughing and calling him a jackass. Which isn't notable at all, except that it's kind of funny to hear Obama calling anyone a jackass.
Basically, overreacting media hype over, well...a jackass...turns into hilarious Internet meme that will likely be around for a while...though not nearly as long as Ceiling Cat (he's watching you masturbate, FYI).
...Yeeeah, it's probably a good thing Frost Park pulls me away from the computer and into the sunlight once a week.
[As a side note, I really have no idea who Kanye West is outside of this. Supposedly he makes music of some sort. *shrug*]

|Gotta vote for RR and his Luzon tribute. Especially since he's spending the night camped out. Go RR!|
by jamesstoweart on 9/25/2009 @ 11:16pm
|I've got to vote for Kenji. I don't know what it looks like in person but the pictures of his pieces blew me away. I am sorry I missed it in person.|
by L.S.Erhardt on 9/25/2009 @ 11:17pm
|Why Sotwe? WHY?|
Shoulda been there... it was wickedly fun!
Anyone else notice that Kanye's skull is covered in ancient Mayan glyphs? My Mayan is rusty, but it seems to be an ancient chant of the shamans to cause one's ego to become bigger than Texas.
by Tat2Fan on 9/25/2009 @ 11:31pm
|my vote is for kenji WOW|
by Heatherrebel on 9/26/2009 @ 9:42am
|I wanted to vote for Kenji's flowers but I guess I missed the deadline...just like I missed the '60's...oh well! I am consoled by seeing so much beauty in the drawings this week, everybody!|
by MarkMonlux on 9/26/2009 @ 2:16pm
|Will someone please double check my count. I have:
by L.S.Erhardt on 9/26/2009 @ 2:29pm
|I get the same.
Congrats, RR. Be sure to show up next week to receive your uber-awesome Carbon Footprint T-shirt!
by Erik on 9/26/2009 @ 2:41pm
|Looks like a tie. Congrats to Mark and RR.
Did RR get out of the Luzon alive?
by NineInchNachos on 9/26/2009 @ 10:20pm
|Yay! I realize I never voted. I would have voted Monlux. I love that robot. Should make a print for Max's bedroom... though I'm not sure I could afford Monlux's royalty fees.
by Crenshaw Sepulveda on 9/26/2009 @ 10:24pm
|I should have voted as well but then it would have been a 3 way tie for first.|
by L.S.Erhardt on 9/26/2009 @ 10:29pm
|A tie? Oh, hmmmmm. Guess I miscounted.|
but alas! For I have just one T-shirt to give away.
So, I will decide the recipient in a game of rock-paper-scissors. Best, one out of one, and the winner will receive the shirt.
...and this is a traditional game of rock-paper-scissors. No Sun, Nuke, Monkey, Alien, Sponge, Cockroach, etc allowed.
by Erik on 9/28/2009 @ 12:42am
|Hey Chalkies, remember Andrea aka Lupin Goddess who came in second place in Season I.|
Here is her latest work in Gig Harbor of the Tacoma Museum of Glass:
Sure would be cool to see her in Frost Park again one day.
by NineInchNachos on 9/28/2009 @ 8:31am
by Adam the Alien on 9/29/2009 @ 12:53am
|You guys hadn't seen those pictures yet? Those are from MONTHS back. We both chalked for about four or five hours in Gig Harbor.|
If RR - one of the tied winners - would have voted for Mark if he'd voted, does that mean the prize goes to Mark? *doesn't know the answer*
In other news, I uploaded a video featuring Molly Lewis - whose ukulele music I've used in several Frost Park videos - and Christopher Wright - who I met at the Portland YouTube gathering while I would have been at a chalk-off - touring Frost Park and giving commentary about the artwork:
