by KevinFreitas on 9/19/2008 @ 6:58am | Missed out on the fun last week but I'll be there this week with my team from work in-tow. May the chalk dust fill the air and our lungs with colorful goodness! |
by jamesstoweart on 9/19/2008 @ 9:20am | For the second week in a row it doesn't look like I'll me able to make it to the Chalk-Off. I am about to go on vacation and slammed here at work. This chalk drought is killing me. I need some chalk action. |
by Adam the Alien on 9/19/2008 @ 9:24am | I'm planning on being there today...if I'm not, it means I fell asleep. I only slept three hours the night before last, and didn't sleep too much on my flight home last night/this morning. |
by dawntown on 9/19/2008 @ 11:12am | No dawntown, too. Poo!
Parents are coming into town and want to go to the museums. Maybe I can swing by towards the end. |
by JessicaJossy on 9/19/2008 @ 11:19am | are people still going even though its raining? |
by Mandiferous on 9/19/2008 @ 11:27am | Rain-schmain. It's barely misting at the moment. Heading out shortly. |
by JessicaJossy on 9/19/2008 @ 11:33am | im leaving for my lunch early, this week is gunna be good! im all excited |
by KevinFreitas on 9/19/2008 @ 11:33am | That ain't rain. See everyone soon! |
by JessicaJossy on 9/19/2008 @ 11:39am | ok im leavin see yall there. |
by Dave_L on 9/19/2008 @ 12:20pm | I hated to wash the walls this time, but I hope people will take advantage of the clean concrete. Today looks to be exciting, but I lost track of time and inertia took over, so here I sit. While we’re awaiting the first photos, I’ll pass on a reminder that the Teddy Haggerty / Randy Sparks five-minute documentary, “Tacoma Chalk Off†is scheduled to play twice on Sunday, Chalktober 5th – Once at TAM and once at SOTA. (This is as of today, and subject to change.) A technical equipment issue prevented it from being shown at the Grand itself, but two showings is grand. The filmmakers hope a lot of you will attend. At some point there will be a limited amount of free DVD’s available for chalkers. Tickets go on sale September 26m and look for the flier in the [Tacoma] News Tribune September 25th. Then, there are plans to show it and another film at the Tempest. Maybe Click! later; who knows.

by JessicaJossy on 9/19/2008 @ 2:50pm | arrggg. umm, i actually was hot. but less people showed up this time ut it was still a good day. |
by JessicaJossy on 9/19/2008 @ 2:55pm | where are the photos!! the anticipation is killing me. |
by Mandiferous on 9/19/2008 @ 2:55pm | A vote for Pirate Tiki is a vote for awesomeness.
Consider yourself voted for, Cap'n! |
by Dave_L on 9/19/2008 @ 3:03pm | Chalk like a Pirate Day.
(Just wanted to say that. I'll look and vote later.) |
by AngelaJossy on 9/19/2008 @ 3:22pm | Exactly why is it pirate day? I guess I missed something ... ? |
by Dave_L on 9/19/2008 @ 3:30pm | Talk Like a Pirate Day: www.talklikeapirate.com/
Other Holidays: www.brownielocks.com/ Tomorrow's National Seat Check Day (CAR seat, that is). Or maybe I'm lying - It's also Big Whopper Liar Day Oh, and Teddy just created World Chalk Day, Oct. 4. |
by Adam the Alien on 9/19/2008 @ 3:32pm | I finished *just* after the last photographer left...which was actually pretty good, considering I was half an hour late arriving. However, no photos exist of my finished piece. I'd really appreciate it if someone could grab a a pic of it, at least before something washes it away. My video camera as out of batteries from my trip, so I couldn't even film it. |
by Dave_L on 9/19/2008 @ 4:37pm | This feels like last week. I haven’t even looked at them all, but how could Dave L. NOT vote for RxR’s Chalkalakala/Yamoto? In other words, I VOTE for RxR. Even though I’m probably going to like some others a lot, too. Nice Pirate Tiki. I hope your Tiki's aren't bad luck like Greg Brady’s Tiki. |
by NineInchNachos on 9/19/2008 @ 6:55pm | an evil regime change at work prevents me from accessing unauthorized websites so Hello Everybody from the comfort of HFW's Corporate Safehouse! photos coming soon... |
by NineInchNachos on 9/19/2008 @ 6:58pm | photos!
![]() |
by KevinFreitas on 9/19/2008 @ 7:45pm | I'm definitely a lubber of all things pirate so cheers to Mark for that. The borderless form of Andrea's work this week is pretty mesmerizing. I'm a bug fan, however, of Little Jossy's SOTA Bots so that's where me vote goes, matey. |
by jamesstoweart on 9/19/2008 @ 8:11pm | Holy... a Space Battleship Yamato reference.
Man, I am a sucker for that kinda stuff. Gotta go RxR. |
by NineInchNachos on 9/19/2008 @ 9:06pm | im into sunsets lately. I vote for Adam the alien.
little Jossy did a very large piece which won extra points... Mark Monlux pirate tiki raises troubling questions about the anatomy of the tiki.. I had never seen one with an open mouth before. |
by Erik on 9/19/2008 @ 9:16pm | I sure missed the Frost Chalking scene today.
Fun pieces. Andrea looked as if she may have had some incredible breakthrough, but it was hard to see in the photos. From what I could see, I will go with RRs. |
by Mark Monlux on 9/19/2008 @ 10:19pm | Arg! I vote for me self. ARG! As for open mouth tikis, how quickly you forget the water and fish spewing tiki. |
by UnstableArt on 9/19/2008 @ 10:45pm | I'm really torn between Monlux and RxR. The colors were great in both, and RxR's composition was so dynamic - the photos just don't do it justice.
This is really tough. Given my penchant for action in artwork, I'll cast my vote for RxR. |
by judges19merescued on 9/19/2008 @ 10:47pm | Yay for "Talk Like a Pirate Day"! So much better than "Opening Day for Seasonal Affective Disorder" day!
Pirate talking tiki is cool-spooky-awesome, Miss Andreas piece, lovely; SOTA Bots, weee! Love 'em. Sunset, a beaut! Vote goes to RxR's Chalkalakala though. Burning question: If it sails in a giant cup of cocoa, would it be a ChocoChalkalakala? ok. I'll shut-up and go to bed now. |
by tacomachickadee on 9/19/2008 @ 11:20pm | Really torn, but I'm voting for Adam. :) |
by Adam the Alien on 9/20/2008 @ 12:58am | Fuck, I got home, fell asleep and am only just now groggily waking up from my post-not-sleeping-on-the-overnight-flight nap. No vote from me, I guess.
I don't suppose anyone got a pic of my finished piece at any point? :( There was a hula dancer I'm particularly fond of in the finished piece. |
by tacomachickadee on 9/20/2008 @ 9:48am | And it's RR by a mile ...
RR - 5 Mark - 2 Adam - 2 Jossy - 1 |
by NineInchNachos on 9/20/2008 @ 12:23pm | Thanks for the votes my friends! I would like to clarify my earlier comments with respect to the tiki. I believe this is the first tiki tongue I have seen.
Not a wooden carved tiki tongue, but a fleshy meat tongue blended into the stony building material... a bionic tiki cyborg. Anyhow it gave me nightmares last night. your pal, RR |
by Erik on 9/20/2008 @ 9:00pm | Congrats RR. You won a paid chalking art gig! |
by psayre23 on 9/20/2008 @ 10:02pm | Sorry Jossy. I'd have voted for you also, but I was too late on voting. Congrats RR. |
