  • Do we have the talent here to staff our companies as they grow?
  • Do things like B&O tax rates and Americas Most Wired City actually matter?
  • Is there meaningful synergy in the existing business culture?
  • Can we leverage our local universities more effectively?
  • What one thing could City/County/Community leaders do to make things more attractive for new companies?
  • If tech companies cant find employees, why do so many Tacoma programmers work in Seattle?

Got a photo of Brian chalking away this morning. Was able to hand him his haunted tap+die set prize from couple weeks back. I have Thorax's Mark Monlux Wife hat prize, too.

should be a good chalk day.

I have a deadline I'm working on today and might not be able to attend. In case I don't show up, the rest of you carry on and have fun without me. I insist.

We might have to consider "bending the rulz" one day for chalkers who chalk before noon and leave their artwork there for others to see later.

Yeah. Great work. A classic.

The precedent already exists, actually. As of last year: we've done it for Lance, who has, in the past, had to leave early or as people are just arriving, but showed up early and chalked.

There you go.

I say that to make a pre-chalking chalking legal, we need two photos from the pre-chalker. One photo with like their watch or cell phone against the blank cement to show starting time and a second one of said time-keeping devices against the finished piece, to confirm the 60 minute limit has not been massively overshot.

A few new folks. I'll be posting my photos later tonight. Excited to show off the topless mermaid.

I say we need to enforce the rules that we have. Otherwise the Chalk Challenge becomes the Let's Go Chalk With Barnie Because Everyone Gets A Prize Show.

As I see it the rules are:

1. The event starts at noon.
2. The events ends at noon.
3. What you can get accomplished in the 60 minutes is what is voted on.
4. You need to have an Avitar on Feed Tacoma to vote.
5. You need to state clearly "I vote for ______." in your post.
6. Posting must occur before Midnight.
7. In the event of a tie, the sponsor decides.
8. The medium of choice is chalk (and the occasional glitter). In short it has to wash away with rain, not constitute a hazard, not stain or cause damage. Some might say glitter does all those things but that I think can be debated.

Now here are few recommended thing to do:

a. Bring chalk

b. Bring kneepads.
Honestly people your killing your knees.

c. Bring gloves.
Many of bloody fingernail has been scraped in the name of art.

d.Set your alarm clock.
Don't complain to everyone that you when you forgot, overslept, missed the bus, or got there with only five minutes left to work. You're not ten anymore and are perfectly capable of getting yourself to places on time. So, for the love of mike remember to set your clock. You know who you are people, Adam.

e. Bring a spray bottle to mist overly dry surfaces or to bind your chalk to sidewalk on windy days.

f. Mention your wife.
Sure, nobody has at Frost Park has ever seen her. But, that's not your problem. She exists. She loves you. She thinks your the cat's meow and consoles you when everybody is voting for the unicorn farting rainbows because they think its 'cute'. She's not just a figment of your imagination. Honest.

And 'no' I'm not cranky because I missed all the fun today.

somebody write that down! Mark Monlux FTW!

Did anyone notice?

1. The event starts at noon.
2. The events ends at noon
3. What you can get accomplished in the 60 minutes is what is voted on.

The 2nd point should be 1pm :)

Interesting. However, Stowe's entry does not show up.

I believe this is Stowe's entry if I found the right code:

I vote Stowe! Glad to see him
back even though I couldn't make it.

@anagram: easiest way for now is to upload your pic to Flickr or somewhere then copy the share/embed code they give you into these comment boxes. Soon I shall re-enable inserting photos straight from here. Stay tuned....

by NineInchNachos
on 9/18/2009 @ 8:02pm
with respect to voting we should also mention that

- people can change their votes too up till midnight.

- calling upon friends and family to vote for you as a "voting zombie army" block is perfectly OK.

- you can try and sabotage other people's chalk entries with harsh art critiques in the comment thread.

I vote for Stowe's butterflies.

Wow, I have to vote for Anagram Press.

Also, it felt real good to be back. It was a great day for chalking butterflies with my wife and daughter.

by Bjr

Tough choice today I vote for Anagram Press . I will take myself out of the comp today I went over the time limit today . I like the thought of the rules being tweaked a little bit . I,m just here to chalk and draw for my friends and family and my boss too . Im thankfulll to have my job back. Just getting my Ideas out of my head on the sidewalk and walls online makes me wish there was more fridays.I got more planed out weeks to come . Yes I will be around drawing at odd times drawing atnight is the best untill you cant see what colors you are using. Im good with the one hour deal . Maybe sometime have extended chalk off . Untill that day just keep on chalk -n Thats my 3 cents Brian

by ixia
on 9/18/2009 @ 9:20pm
Anagram Press has my vote. Just like Crenshaw said: I'd want that on a poster! I must say RR's Russell Building looks mighty fine next to the space needle. Perhaps they can take it along when they head out!

by crockawaddy
on 9/18/2009 @ 9:30pm
But, I liked the concept of the chalk-off happening in the infinite space between the first and last click of noon -or maybe ending tomorrow at noon. Either way would produce some interesting art.

I vote for the alien that is an adam only so he might explain WTF he was drawing....

by Thorax O'Tool
on 9/18/2009 @ 9:34pm
Interesting thought... I propose a FPCO special edition where we show up on like a Saturday at like 11 and chalk until we fill the entire sidewalk... no time limit. Imagine what we could produce!

by Bjr
on 9/18/2009 @ 10:16pm
I second that too Thorax I will chalk till there is no chalk or sidewalk to chalk or till fingers bleed chalk just run out of sidewalk I will chalk 9th street put in a chalk lane . Brian

by Thorax O'Tool

Farewell, sweet slightly-leaning Luzon: your lonesome loveliness shall be sorely missed...
Stowe's flutterbys were a smiling moment as well, loved the movement there!
So much talent and such big hearts in this group; you make me glad that I moved back to the town of the T.
