Hotel Murano 104ft Glass Art

Art in Tacoma is about to take a huge leap forward.

Here's what I was told today (70 percent confidence)

1) The Murano Hotel Art 104 ft. "Dipper" has arrived in the Port of Tacoma with a value of up to $2,000,000.

2) Below, crews are getting the foundation set for the art piece.

3) Crews accidently ruptured a storm drain and are repairing it.

4) The lounge is being re-done.  The restaurant upstairs in Hotel Murano is still open.

5) Cool artsy windows have been put in for the new lounge.

Here is the new art foundation being made.  The unique glass winows have now been completed.  The art "dipper" will have the same design made by placing glass sheets horizontally on top of each other.

New black artistic uniforms for Hotel Murano employess.  They look cooler in person.  (Did the Sheraton have purple ones?)

For more information, see the TNT article on the Hotel Murano piece.

why are we importing glass art? we are basically the glass art capital of the US. Oliver Doriss left here to go to NY to seek fame in fashion in glass art and was told, "you should go to Tacoma" by the art world there.
Hopefully there are pieces made locally in the hotel.

Good question. Although between the MOG and the Tacoma Art Museum and the Bridge of Glass, locals are shown off pretty well.

Rumor has it that there outfits selling clothes downtown which were not locally made either. Let's get to the bottom of this.
