Hotel Murano Opens James Bond 007 Type Bar
The hard work on the Hotel Murano is finally coming through. Kevin has a good shot of the unique glass windows they are installing.
Tonight was the first night their bar was open. I had to put a frame around this picture to show where the bar is. It's pure light. Not since Blue Olive has a bar looked so cool in Tacoma.
For Tacomans needing a little light therapy to overcome winter blues on the cheap, this might be your place. Just order "house red" and nurse your drink for an hour while staring at the bar.

Glass Canoes as lighting fixtures illuminate the hallway.
Here's the ultra modern but warm fireplace.
Commentary
We tried to get a seat at Altezzos but the knitting convention had the place filled up. Looking good Murano. I like the boldness and the glass. If there is an emerging modern identity in Tacoma, it is connected to glass.
Question: are Tacomans ready to embrace such high end glass mojo?

I would like to soon. When I worked in the area years ago, I used to go to coffee here twice a day. It was almost always drip coffee. The coffee bar also had alcoholic drinks one could order but it was pretty lame. The Sheraton was made pretty brutally with exposed interior cement and some pretty boring modern elements. I would like to see them soon do something with the mini convention center in the back like knock it down and replace it. It is a 100 cement structure w/o a window. |
by Erik on 2/16/2008 @ 10:01pm | Now I see the Spew/Volcano has posted a nearly identical photoset of the Murano today demonstrating the power and interconnectiveness of Tacoma's internets. |
by intacoma on 2/16/2008 @ 11:22pm | just got back from this bar... its nice but its really small and is not really a bar to be taken seriously, I was thinking from the photos that they have created a destination for downtown tacoma night-life. Wrong.
Heres some news, they will open another small bar on the 4th floor and Vertigo will be closing, so no more amazing drinks and views. Thumbs down so far |

Its small. Its really part of the lounge. Its not meant to be a stand along Doyle's atmosphere. Heres some news, they will open another small bar on the 4th floor Interesting. They always had a sort of generic restaurant there. They also used to have a separate bar where the spa is now. |

Thought that place was closed.. |

Nope. Still open. And packed. So was the bar upstairs. With the developments in this area such as the Ford Building, Luzon and South Park Plaza, its going to be alot different. |
by Jake on 2/17/2008 @ 3:38pm | That is surprising. I have not heard or read anything about it for a long time. I think most people think it is closed. They need a website. |

They may have had one. However, I think the space is going to be renovated for another restaurant. I know they had the space for lease. |
by andrew.austin on 2/18/2008 @ 2:56pm | Is this the bar on the top? or the 4th floor? |

Actually, its on the first floor in the lounge. The 4th floor is still under heavy construction. |
by AP on 2/20/2008 @ 3:18pm | So is this place just called the Hotel Murano Bar? Or does it have a swanky title all its own? Just curious. |
