Mysterious Coffee Shop "Amocat Coffee" to Open on St. Helens

Current Outside Photos on St. Helens by The Mix in Downtown Tacoma:

The new Amocat Coffee shop set to open in the near future.

The images on the windows seem to have some sort of odd disturbing theme to them reminiscent of The Church of the SubGenious.

The only person in Tacoma to have investigated The Church of the SubGenious in Tacoma in Ellectric Elliot of the Melon when he discovered their old headquarters at the corner of 21st and Alder:

Tacoma may need Electric Elliot's help again.

Since the closing of Blackwater Cafe, Gloomhouse, and the Warehouse Tacoma's Hipsters and Scenesters have lost their way and can often be found wandering in the streets.  Even the Volcano's once vibrant hipster declaration list has been shut down and now the magazine rarely even uses the word "Hipster.".

Hopefully, Amocat Coffee has the mojo to fill some of this void in the heart of downtown Tacoma.

heck that's within walking distance of my cubicle right?

I might not be hip enough to drink coffee in a place like this. I'm just barely qualified to drink coffee at Dunkin Donuts.

by Crenshaw Sepulveda on 3/23/2010 @ 12:47am
I think it it Amocat, which is Tacoma backwards, not Amacat. On the other hand I might not be hip enough to know.

Great work Morgan and though I'm not a coffee drinker I look forward to finding a reason (which I'm sure there will be many) to hang out!

Thanks Jake.

@Kevin: they may have tea!

That is a very cool area! I love the circa 50's coffee drinkers. If I had more hair, I'd get a vintage shirt and use a dab of brillcream.

and smoke a pipe.

Dunno if they'll let me in there. I'm too crunk to be a hipster.

Your impressive chalk work at Frost Park gives you more than the required street cred Thorax to be hip anywhere.

In the old days of Frost Park when the prizes were huge, we used to have a weekly prize exchange at the Blackwater Cafe.

Plus, the meaning of hipster has changed a great deal since RR Anderson commandeered the term and the clothing criteria:

That picture is of RR Anderson after he won the 253 Daniel Blue tee shirt.

Read the notes of the photograph here:

RR's apparent statement on hipsterism is that anyone can be a hipster at any time wearing any possible combination of clothes. Just check out his white socks!

by NineInchNachos on 3/23/2010 @ 11:22pm
why must you haunt me with that picture

by Altered Chords on 3/24/2010 @ 8:53am
That's the problem w/ the Internet RR. What is posted there never goes away. Some folks have skeletons in their closet - Some folks have skeletons on a server somewhere.

Volcano coverage of Amocat. Kinda:

And coffee! And soon the Amocat Café will open next to the Mix at Sixth and Market. I wonder where I would be today if I had started drinking coffee earlier? It doesn't matter, I live in the now, now!

Well at least with that picture we know why Daniel Blue wants to leave Tacoma.

Looks like Amocat was given the new Beautiful Angle poster from the artistic powers that be:

I will probably drink my coffee at Amocat, Vanilla Bean is pretty boring. I can do without the hype. It is just coffee and a comfortable place to drink it. I will not be naming any future children Amocat Sepulveda.

The hype machine now shifts into Second Gear...

This is nothing. You should have seen the hype that kicked off Frost Park in the early days:

i.feedtacoma.com/Erik/frost-park-friday-...

and reached a crescendo at the Frost Park Finale Episode XXX (Season I in 2008):

i.feedtacoma.com/Erik/today-final-frost-...

Those were the days. Back then, the chalk competitions were so intense, and the prizes significant, that we used to have the chalk off prize transfers at Blackwater Cafe.

Awesome Erik! I forgot to post my pics from our weekend painting party but will now wait 'til after this weekends painting party. Can't wait to lend more of a hand to Morgan's efforts.
