A Musical Celebration
by Alan Janes and Rob Bettinson

MAY 29 - JUNE 28, 2009

Celebrate with us the 50th anniversary of "the day the music died..." when we bring you one of the world's most produced musicals Buddy Holly's brief life has become the stuff of legend.

This musical is a celebration of that legend and catches that unique mixture of innocence, determination, humor and charm that was Buddy Holly and wraps it up into a package that truly will have you dancing in the aisles.

"On July 28, 2005, Centre Stage opened its first production of Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story. Within days, the show sold out, becoming the biggest blockbuster in the Theatre's 25-year history to that time."
- The Greenville News

"The audience was on its feet at the end screaming for encores as if at a stadium concert."
- Newsday

"Ludicrously enjoyable...Buddy Holly's magnificent music undoubtedly ensures that you leave with a smile on your face and a spring in your step."

Showing at the Tacoma Little Theater.

Tacoma Little Theatre is located at 210 North "I" Street, Tacoma WA 98403

Yes folks, the sponsorships are coming back to Frost Park. They are pushing their way in. Having some good media certainly helped the interest level.

It was interesting to see last week how the voting increased once a prize was at stake.

Also nice to see that Frost Park chalk offs still worked when only a pat on the back was offered as a prize. Now that I think of it, I kind of miss the massive zombie voting armies that the big prizes used to draw out.

Still waiting to see if King 5 News will have anything on the Frost Park Chalk Offs.

They aired their bit about Frost Park on the Friday evening news after the last one. I've been told by a bunch of random people that "Hey, you were on TV!"

Bummed I missed it but they plugged FeedTacoma and had a link up on their site. Nevertheless, tell your friends -- art lives in Tacoma in things like Frost Park and Tacoma Little Theatre!

Yeah, I did see the link on their site. Nice to hear that King 5 News did show a bit on Frost Park.

I am very happy to see prizes again. And its not so much the added edge of competition that a prize draws, but that it shows a support of what we're doing by the general community.

I also really liked the idea of a theme that was tried last week. If nothing else, its a good way to work through chalkers block. Are we going to keep this up? If so, whats the theme Stowe?

I totally forgot I had to come up with a theme. Jeez...

Theme...

Theme...

I guess I will honor my fellow Absurd Washingtonian brothers (and fellow chalkers) by making this week's theme:

DRAW THE CLAW!

A late evening in Seattle had me drving past Frost park around 8pm tonight, and there with a small, well-used brush in hand was Dave_L scrubbing away. I couldn't just drive past. So finding a quick place to park, I hopped out and helped Dave finish prepping the park for this week. If it doesn't rain before Friday there should be some pretty rainbows on the sidewalk that could be incorporated into this week's CLAW art. Or... maybe not.

The thing that was most amazing was how many people were wondering why we were washing away the art. But once we said we were getting the park ready for this Friday people were cool. It's not just a Friday thing, it's not just us. People enjoy the art and having it there, and are sad when it gets washed away.

Dave L. is a Frost Park saint:

Speaking of FP, there are an increasing number of post event chalkers.

NO! Not that photo again!
Thanks for stopping Joel. It's so much easier with two people. And thanks for the previous washing you guys did. Thanks, Erik, but definitely NOT a saint. There would be at least a few people against my canonization. But let's not talk about that again...

Heck, maybe I just wanted to make sure there was a spot for me to chalk on Friday. Maybe we do need a patron saint of chalking, though.

I hope I can actually get out of work for this week's Chalk-Off. I'm excited to see everyone again.

You were the video STAR of the Tribune Dawn.

I may be late to the chalk off today... but I'll be there. Need to go get preapproved for a housing loan. Wish us luck.
