Puget Sound Pizza in Tacoma Rated

Much has been said (positively) about Puget Sound Pizza.  They make good pizza.  But that's just where they start.

Located on 7th and St. Helens.  There isn't much else in the area, especially at night.  City Hall has shut down.  There are a few building projects going forward in an attempt to repopulate the area, but most of the larger ones have never gotten much further than a press release or are much delayed.

Puget Sound Pizza (PSP) is essentially serving as a urban outpost, a light in the darkness in this area of town. A place of respite, especially after 6:00 p.m.  Sure, there is activity down on Pacific Avenue or in Stadium, but those places are at some distance away.

In the relative void downtown, here's what PSP does for the local urban dwellers and visitors:

1) They serve as a good pizza place 9 to 5.  We could expect that.  But there is more.

2) For urban dwellers needing food in the morning.  They open at 7:00 and have breakfast Monday through Friday; 7 am - 10:30 am and Saturday & Sunday from 9 am to 1:30(ish).

3) They serve food and alcohol (full bar) until midnight during the week and until 2:00 a.m. on the weekend.  (That's right.  Pizza until 2:00 a.m.!!)

4) PSP delivers downtown 11 am-1:30 pm.

5) PSP offers its space for free to open source blogger purveyor Kevin Freitas and the growing Feed Tacoma bloggers on select Wednesdays at 7:00 a.m.

6) PSP holds the local bridge matches from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. every other Sunday.  (Just kidding)

In it's current place and function downtown, PSP reminds me a bit of John Carrs cabin which served many functions during the early days of Tacoma including a post office when there was little else in town.

PSP will certainly benefit from all of the people moving into the area.  They deserve it.

A shot of The Roberson from PSP.

Final Thoughts

Tacomamama is now hosting PSP's menu which is now online

I wonder if PSP can come up with some other function for their space from 2:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. the 5 hours in the 24 hour day in which they are  currently closed.

(If you must ask, there is no pizza by the slice at PSP YET)

Sarah, our friend and I caught the end of the Green Bay v. Giants game there last night. Made for a great end to the weekend! Sarah and I even went the lighter salad route with a plate of cheesy bread to share. Always a pleasure, PSP.

I wish for an antipasto, satisfying that pizza sort of craving for the gluten free. Other than that, it's about perfect.

I have yet to work my way through the menu.

Its hard to believe they ever were open without the expansion downstairs.

Perhaps they will do even more expansion in the future in their building.

I have heard they do. From what I could see it looked good.

I almost forgot to post:

I don't know you go down that way around 10pm on a friday or saturday and between PSP, Silverstone, and Ida's its a pretty busy area.

Yep. Ida's is certainly there. But being a bar, it has a limited number of services it can offer and people it can serve. PSP almost does it all.

I like how Frinklin and I have been relegated to "our friend" or "friends" as of late. What are we - chopped liver? Are you ashamed to admit that we hang out every single night of the week together?

And on the PSP note - love their pizzas, but I usually opt for their yummy salads. Hits the spot and they're always open. A safe bet in a city that seems to think that people don't eat after 8PM or on Sundays.
