The Red Hot Offers Prizes for *Worst* Chalkie Entry
This Friday 8/29/2008 is Frost Park Chalk Off Episode XXI at noon at 9th and Pacific Avenue in downtown Tacoma.
All are welcome.
FROM THE RED HOT WEB SITE:
Frost Park Chalk-Off One For The Little Guy Prize Package:
Whomever receives the FEWEST votes in this week’s Frost Park Chalk-Off (Friday August 29th), will be the recipient of this grandiose and spectacular prize package to further enhance their chalkability, provided by your favorite little tavern…The Red Hot:

One box of Prang Gallery Paper Chalk containing 12 sticks of chalking freedom!

You’ve seen them in the store, but were too afraid the other chalkies
might make fun. No bother! Take hold of your new Tri-Writer!
Your new Flip-Grip! Your new Wide Writer! Your new Blender brush! It even comes with 5 sticks of back-up chalk! You, my chalktastic pal, are covered!

MORE FREAKING CHALK! How do those chalking fools make such huge pieces? With huge amounts of freaking chalk! 52 sticks of Crayola non-toxic chalk art makers!

These prizes are intended for the LAST PLACE artist is this week’s
chalk-off. If anyone throws the contest, I will meet with my board
(League of the Little Guy) to determine eligibility.
In the event of a tie, I will…think of something…like…breaking up the prizes, or…something. Don’t you worry your little chalking hearts out!
Chalk on, brothers and sisters…

Commentary: Nice to see the Red Hot become a repeat sponsor even if it is for the entrant with the fewest votes.
Anyone want to offer something for the winner of Episode XXI?
IZENMANIA MAY HEADLINE FROST PARK
Last week, in regards to playing in Frost Park Izenman stated:
I will make a more concerted effort to organize transport for next week.We will have to wait and see.

by beerandhotdogs on 8/28/2008 @ 8:04am | Not the "WORST" chalk entry, just the one who receives the fewest votes. I just want to see some new blood from Frost Park walk away with something.

by Mark Monlux on 8/28/2008 @ 8:11am | This will be interesting. Often there are several images which receive no votes, or several ties for the lowest number of votes. How will you judge the finalist then? A knife fight? |

by tacomachickadee on 8/28/2008 @ 8:17am | You had me at "chalktastic" ... |
by jamesstoweart on 8/28/2008 @ 9:06am | wouldn't, for the sake of argument, the person with the fewest votes still be required to get at least one vote. I could literally no show up and get zero votes. The person who gets the least amount of actual votes (with a minimum of one) is something to strive for. I may have to completely throw this week's entry and campaign for other people (while voting for myself and assuring that no one else votes for me). There is a science to this... let the games begin! |
by jamesstoweart on 8/28/2008 @ 9:09am | Man...
I missed: If anyone throws the contest, I will meet with my board (League of the Little Guy) to determine eligibility ...in the original post. How does one bribe (I mean join) the League of the Little Guy? I wonder if they need a logo... |
by intacoma on 8/28/2008 @ 9:40am | you first have to join the redhot bike gang, we only go downhill too |
by Erik on 8/28/2008 @ 11:33am | Not the "WORST" chalk entry, just the one who receives the fewest votes.
I see. I think. |
by NineInchNachos on 8/28/2008 @ 11:48am | I agree. there are several worthy entries that don't win the popular vote. it's nice to throw a blanket to the struggling artist out in the fringe. |
by NineInchNachos on 8/28/2008 @ 11:50am | still I like the idea of artists drawing things purposefully to attract anti-votes. |
by jamesstoweart on 8/28/2008 @ 12:04pm | I am there with you Ryan... Prepare for the anti-vote art rally! Granted, I have no idea how to achieve that goal yet... Perhaps I'll just 'Draw the Cowboy.' |
by Erik on 8/28/2008 @ 12:16pm | still I like the idea of artists drawing things purposefully to attract anti-votes.
That might force the participants to start drawing perfectly rendered Walmart logos. There could be a method to the madness after all. |
by NineInchNachos on 8/28/2008 @ 12:54pm | instead of artists drawing things to be liked by the greatest majority, this is an incentive for artists to draw things deeply personal that the majority will absolutely not understand or in fact be repelled by. I find this idea attractive. of course you could always draw that blue statue in front of the condos derek wrote about in the new issue of City Arts, but where is the fun/mischief in that? |

Hot dogs in Frost Park? Hmmm. |
by Dave_L on 8/28/2008 @ 5:26pm | C@TRH's been shopping! That's a GREAT prize idea, and a great write-up! Way to go, keeping it fresh and interesting for chalksters of all levels. Shoot, I'm too busy to make it tomorrow, but that's O.K.
(I hope the TRH pinewood derby's still in the works.) |
by Wings_of_Change on 8/28/2008 @ 11:51pm | hmmmm. I get it ( I think) and its interesting. however, I would like to say that Jeremy does not understand and will not be attending tomorrow. He says that he would never do bad drawings on purpose, and that he is affronted that anyone would ask that of him. I understand that this is not technically what is supposed to happen, but he says that if he does well, he still wouldnt want to get a prize for last place.
I am sad about this, as it is the antithisis of what this prize is about. but I thought I would let you all know. |
by intacoma on 8/29/2008 @ 7:22am | cry me a river, why do you need to chalk for a prize, just chalk to chalk. Hope garfield kid to gets some rest |
by intacoma on 8/29/2008 @ 7:41am | Hope garfield kid gets some rest* |
by NineInchNachos on 8/29/2008 @ 9:01am | Wings_of_Change, if it is any consolation Jeremy would never be in any danger of winning the 'fewest votes' slot since he gets more than a few votes each episode. he safely ride it out in the center.
contest was just meant to be a silly 'mixing it up' art experiment to shake off the main-stream populist themes. and to reward the devoted people who show up each time and get no votes. I don't think Jeremy has ever received a 'no votes' in the history of this event. |
by beerandhotdogs on 8/29/2008 @ 11:33am | Yes, I'm sorry some feel this is a prize for 'losing' or for the 'worst' entry, but was meant as a chance for someone not usually in the spotlight to be in it.
Not once did I refer to this as a 'loser' or 'worst entry' prize. Most people got it, and a surprising number of people did not. That's why I added the note to try to get people to not 'throw' the event. It was just a side note for participants. It's just meant to add to the fun, up the ante to maybe bring more people out, maybe reward some regulars, nothing more. C@TRH |
by Erik on 8/29/2008 @ 11:40am | There are prizes for the most and least votes this week. Crazy? Two exciting ways to win. |
by droid116 on 8/29/2008 @ 11:53am | Well that's just great. A prize for the entry with the fewest votes. When I am out of town you offer I prize I have a shot at.
Oh well, good luck all, I look forward to seeing them online today. |
