RR Anderson Wins Chalk Art Contest With *Tagro* Entry
On a close vote of 7 - 5, RR Anderson's "Tagro" prevailed over Lance Kagey's "Warhol" giving him the title of "BEST ILLUSTRATOR IN THE UNIVERSE OF TACOMA" for the next week.

At stake:
RR Anderson won two tickets to see James Kunstler at Theater on the Square at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday April 23rd.
Second Place Submission "Warhol" by Lance Kagey

Obligatory chalk claim of artistic dominance of Frost Park by RR Anderson upon his completion of his piece "Tagro."
Commentary
Unlike the clear win of LupinGoddess over RR last week, this week's submissions have grown much closer in quality and stronger overall. A total of 10 entries were submitted. Although still not competitive, I believe even my submission improved over last week.
Recap: Frost Park Winning Chark Art Sketches to Date:
Week 1 : LupinGoddess prevails with "Horse of a Different Color"

Week 2 : RR Anderson prevails with "Tagro"
See everyone next Friday

by Adam the Alien on 4/19/2008 @ 3:20am | I don't know...I think think the real winning entry is the square of kidling-drawn artwork just above R.R.'s commendable commode. None of the other artists had quite the same look of sheer joy after completing their drawings as the children did. Bearing that in mind, you can't tell me they didn't win. :-D |
by NineInchNachos on 4/19/2008 @ 9:07am | I'm already planning in my head what I'll draw next Friday. I'd like to thank my corporate sponsor TAGRO, yes TAGRO. Whether a night on the town or a good home cooked meal, we all contribute in the end to TAGRO: A results oriented brand we all have a piece in. It's like REI, but less harmful to the environment. TAGRO! By the bucket or truckload, TAGRO customers say their gardens grow faster, lawns grow thicker and trees grow taller.
[cough, cough] whoa, [blinking] what... happened? Did I just "sell out" ? |
by andrew.austin on 4/19/2008 @ 4:20pm | Erik, your cell phone pictures are amazing. I have a fancy phone and mine are fuzzy and terrible...hmmm.
Good stuff, I hope to see LupinGoddess return next week! |
by Erik on 4/19/2008 @ 4:40pm | Erik, your cell phone pictures are amazing. I have a fancy phone and mine are fuzzy and terrible...hmmm. Thanks. It completely depends on conditions. I did turn in a phone I had for about a month which was much worse which I turned back it. Frost Park seems to work pretty well. Inside fluorescent is the worst. Good stuff, I hope to see LupinGoddess return next week! Andrea emailed me and indicate she thought that the Frost Park event may have been called off because of the rain. Perhaps she will watch to watch Adam's video to see its a pretty dedicated crowd. To date, she's the only artist in Tacoma who has been able to defeat RR Anderson. Whether she would have been able to out perform "Tagro" will forever be unknown. What is your avatar Andrew? Looks like some sort of fire initiation ceremony. |
by Erik on 4/21/2008 @ 12:09pm | RR may have won the vote but Lance Kagey's "Warhol" wins first place for the art piece with the longevity and visibility. Its still in perfect shape in Frost Park. |
by NineInchNachos on 4/21/2008 @ 12:13pm | Lance found the sweet spot. I imagine it will be there for a long time. And unlike a Beautiful Angel poster people cant snatch this away. |
by Steph DeRosa on 4/21/2008 @ 12:30pm | No love for the profound 'Death of a SAHM'?
Tough crowd. ;) |
by izenmania on 4/21/2008 @ 1:52pm | Perhaps if more of the voting public were stay-at-home moms your peace would have met with greater praise... instead you suffer from the very plague that you seek to bring to our attention.
Or something. Sometimes even I don't know what I'm talking about. |
by UnstableArt on 4/21/2008 @ 3:37pm | Good stuff, I hope to see LupinGoddess return next week!
Andrea emailed me and indicate she thought that the Frost Park event may have been called off because of the rain. Perhaps she will watch to watch Adam's video to see its a pretty dedicated crowd. Indeed I'll be there, shine or rain. Just so long as no one minds the smell of wet dog. Thank you again Erik for bringing me up to speed on the history of this fledgling Tacoma tradition. If I crawled out of my cave more often perhaps you wouldn't have had to go through the trouble! |
by Erik on 4/22/2008 @ 12:57pm | To the winner go the spoils:![]() Here is RR Anderson with his 2 Kunstler tickets he won by prevailing in the 2nd Frost Park Chalk Off. Nice job. (Also, take a look at the overflowing hot chocolate from Blackwater) www.flickr.com/photos/tacoma-urbanist/ |
