Stadium's Harmon Hub Opens 3/31 Grand Opening 4/1
Pat Nagle had hoped that the Harmon Hub would open by St. Patrick's Day.
Now it looks to be opening on 3/31/2008 with a Grand Opening Celebration on April 4, 2008. Here's the latest:
It looks to be bike oriented:
We can't wait. I am looking forward to the place bustling with people in the summer with the garage doors open.

by CA on 3/11/2008 @ 11:31am | All I gotta say is WOW! If their food and ambiance is half as good as those press releases/adverts, then i think we got a winner on our hands. I'm excited. |
by KevinFreitas on 3/11/2008 @ 11:34am | Could be very good. Cheers to them for converting a space from empty to full so quickly. Still, I long for the promised theater pub that I presume they will no longer be putting in the new Mecca.
Wonder if they have plans and such they'd be willing to donate to another developer to urge that idea still forward? |
by Erik on 3/11/2008 @ 11:59am | Could be very good. Cheers to them for converting a space from empty to full so quickly. Yes, Stadium District is pretty well the winner for most improved neighborhood over the last 5 years. I presume they will no longer be putting in the new Mecca. Right. Gintz is selling much of the lower portion of the Mecca into a number of commercial condos. Wonder if they have plans and such they'd be willing to donate to another developer to urge that idea still forward? I think Gintz is using them to help sell or lease the Mecca space. |
by KevinFreitas on 3/11/2008 @ 12:07pm | Boo. A theater pub would've been another great reason for people to stay downtown for their evenings. I would've been all over it because a) I hate normal theaters and b) don't always feel like the selection the Grand offers. Oh, and the food, drink and comfy couch aspect is seriously appealing. |
by Heather on 3/11/2008 @ 6:08pm | AWESOME! I love the old photo of the boys with their beers and bikes! The logo is fun, too.
Thanks for the update! I'm putting the 4-4 celebration on my calendar right now. |

I'm putting the 4-4 celebration on my calendar right now. Yeah. The athletic factor is a good one. Maybe it will inspire me to start riding my bike more often. |
by jcbetty on 3/12/2008 @ 8:25am | Yay! pub opening soon! and....uh... hm. How to say this nicey-nice? The Gladiator wines rip-off girl on bike logo thing is lame. Hope they're still refining that one to look less... " girl needs some knickers and control of her bike" ==still, the bike theme makes me happy!
KFrei-- you may want to check out the Gig Harbor 10 til Tacoma gets its cinematic act together-- they have one "vip" viewing room that will (I don't think they do yet) serve beer and wine and have larger, comfortable seats (that's a novel idea...) --it means an extra $3 to go, to pay tolls, but??meh? (come Onnnnnnnn McMenamins!!) |
by KevinFreitas on 3/12/2008 @ 8:50am | Yea, I've heard peeps about that. Pretty sure I'd go for a DVD at home over a drive to and from Gig Harbor. That's why something downtown would be swell 'cause we can hit it on our way home or while out and about doing other things. Thanks for the reminder nevertheless.
Maybe (no offense to Gintz and co.) we need to start a McMenamins in Tacoma petition of some sort and send it to them. It's just hard to imagine why they're not here yet with all the great opportunities for them to do the great work they normally do. |
by Dmitri on 3/13/2008 @ 2:50pm | I hate to be an old stick-in-the-mud (not really), but as a retired mailman, I just can't help myself. The address for the Harmon Hub, when it opens, will 203 Tacoma Ave S, not 208. I walked by there today ... 208 is an apartment across the street.
Harmon's web site has the address wrong, too. |

Thanks for the trivia. Correction. Hopefully, people will still be able to locate it. |
by NineInchNachos on 3/13/2008 @ 2:59pm | I like nekid girls on bikes for logos. Excelsior! |
by CA on 3/13/2008 @ 3:02pm | Ive thought for quite some time that a large multi screen movie theater downtown would be a HUGE attraction and would increase traffic for just about every retail business in downtown. The Grand Cinema is outstanding, but its limited size and genre(art films) isnt enough to have the impact im thinking would be possible. |

As you may know, that was the plan for antique row for awhile. |
by thriceallamerican on 3/13/2008 @ 3:19pm | Anyone remember several years ago when there was some talk of a multi screen theater going in on Antique Row? (Not talking about the Mecca thing...) |
by Jake on 3/13/2008 @ 3:39pm | I remember something about that.. I believe it was to go where the Lorig apartment project is planned. Recently Galaxy Theaters stated they would be interested in Downtown Tacoma. |
by thriceallamerican on 3/13/2008 @ 3:42pm | Ah, here we go... 10 freaking years ago back in '98. It involves the Elks, Zimmerman, etc. Fascinating... Totally off topic, though... |
by CA on 3/13/2008 @ 3:53pm | For every 20 great possibilities that come Tacoma's way, we maybe grab one. So frustrating..... |
by Erik on 3/13/2008 @ 4:12pm | Anyone remember several years ago when there was some talk of a multi screen theater going in on Antique Row? Yes. The city was apparently considering transforming the area. Although it is possible to do it in an urban form, I doubt it would have in the end turned out very well. |
