Tacoma Artists Battle for the 27th Time This Year at Frost Park Via Chalking At Noon

Today is the weekly chalk off competition at Frost Park located at 9th and Pacific Avenue in downtown Tacoma at noon.

Poem of Passion Carefully Restrained so as to Offend Nobody:

I shall sing a song to you,-
Fair a song as any;
Perfect as a drop of dew-
Rare among the many.

Eager, dancing words will do
Their melodious duty;
Make a lucent mirror, true
To your shining beauty.

I shall coin your golden hair
For a stanza's treasure;
Tame your wild and wayward air
To my love-sick measure.

I shall lift my song and sing
With the voice of doom
The utter loneliness you bring
Into this little room.

I'm so there. Looks like the rain will subside a bit by noon so all ye hearty chalk lubbin' souls come on down!

raining like cow peeing on flat rock.

Stowe has announced: If you bring him food during the 24hr comic book event, he will draw you into his comic book; if you bring him booze he will dedicate an entire splash page in the comic book to you.

by Erik on 10/2/2009 @ 1:54pm
Ooops.

Could this been the first chalk off that was canceled out of 57 episodes?

by NineInchNachos on 10/2/2009 @ 2:00pm
I'll post pics tonight. was a good turnout considering.

Very nice.

Great work.

I vote for Adam the Alien!

by daydreamer on 10/2/2009 @ 2:32pm
Thorax gets my vote.

by L.S.Erhardt on 10/2/2009 @ 3:43pm
I love Tetris! Really, it is the only video game I'm good at.

I also like the way the wine is just missing the glass in Gini's piece... so close, but just not quite in the glass. No use crying over spilled wine, right?

Adam... non-alien centric. Is this the beginning of a new, bold creative phase? Have the folks down at Tac 25 already stated influencing you?

But this week, in an uncharacteristic move, I'm voting for Stowe. Why? Because that is an awesome looking poster. Too awesome to be drawn by a human. Is Stowe a robot in disguise? I don't know.

by Emilie has one foot on shore on 10/2/2009 @ 4:03pm
I love the wit on display this week! Thanks guys!

I vote for Stowe--Great "layout" and simultaneously promotes a small local biz AND a fun upcoming event!

by NineInchNachos on 10/2/2009 @ 4:11pm
@thorax hey if you love tetris so much why dont you marry it?

by L.S.Erhardt on 10/2/2009 @ 4:20pm
She said no.

:(

by Crenshaw Sepulveda on 10/2/2009 @ 4:50pm
I think fredo may be able to help with Tetris' rejection. Most of these games do come from the far east, don't they?

by L.S.Erhardt on 10/2/2009 @ 5:14pm
If by "far east" you mean "the former Soviet Union", then yes.

by Gini Ruth on 10/2/2009 @ 5:34pm
I vote for the marshmallow tragedy. Everyone is searching for something.

I think tetris should revisit the question.

by Gini Ruth on 10/2/2009 @ 6:22pm
and you should always cry over spilled wine... that is a party foul.

by ixia on 10/2/2009 @ 6:54pm
I vote for Thorax. Best use of used wings.

by NineInchNachos on 10/2/2009 @ 8:03pm
Mark Monlux does Tiki Bot..

Wow! Sorry I missed the chalking today. Really great pieces. I love Doug's story piece! (Doug? Another new chalker?! That's great.) And yes, TOT used the wings well. And the Tiki Robot is very well executed. But, Adam, yours really impressed me! I love the way the butterflies from last week's piece flutter across the darker theme of this week's chalking. I vote for Adam.

by NineInchNachos on 10/2/2009 @ 8:06pm
I vote for STOWE! that's some poster worthy of a Dockyard Derby Dame or Beautiful Angle design.. eh?

by NineInchNachos on 10/2/2009 @ 8:08pm
adam the alien did a killer job though.

by jamesstoweart on 10/2/2009 @ 9:51pm
I just heard some thunder... which is clearly Thor demanding that I vote for a Chalk Off Winner...

But since I've always been kind of a Loki guy and I really dig books about ground meat I am going to be voting for my poster.

So... me... vote... stowe's... poster.

by jamesstoweart on 10/2/2009 @ 9:51pm
adam the alien DID do a killer job though.

by jamesstoweart on 10/2/2009 @ 9:52pm
Also... I urge everyone to come down to Comic Book Ink anytime tomorrow and share in the madness that will be the 24 Hour Comic Book Day Challenge!

by jamesstoweart on 10/2/2009 @ 9:53pm
Bring food and root for Stowe and I'll even immortalize you in comic panel form!

by Mark Monlux on 10/2/2009 @ 10:48pm
I too vote for Stowe's poster.

by demgal88 on 10/2/2009 @ 11:32pm
I vote for Adam. Glad to see the butterfies, even if they are the last of the season! lol

Hope you all come by the Tempest Sunday for the big party to support Ref 71. 4 pm -8

by Courtney on 10/2/2009 @ 11:34pm
I vote for Adam. I was torn between Stowe, Adam and the marshmallow. I like how far Adam has come in the last year.

by Erik on 10/2/2009 @ 11:52pm
Bring food and root for Stowe and I'll even immortalize you in comic panel form!

Very cool.

by Adam the Alien on 10/3/2009 @ 1:32am
Poopsticks. I was unable to vote as I was still setting up my computer and getting my giant stone turtle fixed (it was sadly broken, today, during the course of moving another batch of stuff to my new place).

by Adam the Alien on 10/3/2009 @ 1:43am
Unless I miscounted, the results are in...

Stowe - 5
Adam - 4
Thorax - 2
Doug - 1

I'm surprised nobody voted for Mark's robot tiki. That was my favorite piece this week.

Adam... non-alien centric.
Hey, now, I've had pieces that weren't alien-centric. The only requirement of my schtick is that the alien is somewhere in the drawing.

Is this the beginning of a new, bold creative phase?
Actually, it's the re-emergence of an old, tried-and-true Frost Park trick: stealing others' artwork. I did very little other than trace shapes that were already there and add some colors and text. The very idea of the shadowy old-school radio drama vigilante was derived from tracing the formless shapes in the melted artwork of weeks past. Think of it as the "Hey, that cloud looks like a bunny!" of chalk art.

I can't help but notice how absolutely epic ALL the pieces are this week. That's one thing I love about the rainy Fridays: the people who still come are effing hardcore BAMFs (BadAss MotherFuckers, for the acronym-challenged...also known as the Samuel L. Jacksons of the world), and it shows in the resulting artwork.

by Erik on 10/3/2009 @ 10:02am
Congrats Stowe!

The master blaster from last year wins.

by L.S.Erhardt on 10/3/2009 @ 4:43pm
"I think tetris should revisit the question."

Tetris was great, but the past is the past... Now I'm looking forward to something better.

by Heatherrebel on 10/5/2009 @ 10:18am
Can't believe I missed the vote again! Who knows what lurks in my scattered brain? Maybe that's why I am partial to Adam's "Who Knows What Lurks..." drawing. Great work all!
