by Adam the Alien on 10/24/2008 @ 5:28pm | Guys, don't just post links to your set...you're supposed to post one of each piece, so people know what there is (honestly, you photographers have gotten lazy...says the guy whose videos are always late). Especially you, Darkain, since you have the only photographic evidence of newbie chalker Karl, who showed up after everyone left and asked if he could chalk something. I let him use my chalk and he had me model for his sketch:
I think it's pretty damn impressive, especially since it was his first time drawing with chalk. |

|
by Adam the Alien on 10/24/2008 @ 5:57pm | Well, I don't dare vote as late as I usually do, for fear of getting home too late or forgetting after I do get home, so I'm going to go ahead and vote for the newcomer, Karl. Not only is it cool that he saw the art we left behind and wanted to participate, but there was no stage of his drawing - watching it progress from sketchy outline to finished piece - that I wouldn't find impressive coming from a seasoned chalker. And he'd never worked with chalk! Plus, y'know, he drew me, which was cool. So Karl has my vote. |
by Erik on 10/24/2008 @ 6:01pm | Guys, don't just post links to your set...you're supposed to post one of each piece, so people know what there is Way to "crack" the whip there Adam. Speaking of crack, does this help? www.flickr.com/photos/tacoma-inventor/29... |
by Adam the Alien on 10/24/2008 @ 6:06pm | By the way, a quick explanation for mine: DFTBA, for those who didn't read the text under it, stands for Don't Forget To Be Awesome, and it is a Nerdfighter saying. Nerdfighters are nerds who fight for awesome and the decrease of worldsuck. The term came into being during the course of a project called Brotherhood 2.0, in which John Green and Hank Green vlogged back and forth with each other - in place of any textual communication - for a year. They still vlog - though not every day and no longer in place of other forms of communication - at www.youtube.com/vlogbrothers
John Green, in particular, is a published author of three fine books. His most recent, Paper Towns, just released and just made it to fifth on the New York Times bestseller list due to the efforts of the Nerdfighter community to pre-order the book and/or buy it the instant it released. He - and his brother, Hank, as well as a horde of other Nerdfighters - will be at the Seattle Public Library on Tuesday the 28th from 7pm to 9pm. by Dave_L on 10/24/2008 @ 6:18pm | Before I leave the internets, I cast my VOTE for Electric Elliott. I just like it. (And not just because it has "Dave" in it.) Though Andrea's light-channeling piece and RR's are once again superhuman, and New Karl's is excellent. Another great week. |
by dawntown on 10/24/2008 @ 7:08pm | All Nerds and Buttcrackers go to heaven... |
by NineInchNachos on 10/24/2008 @ 7:10pm | I hope Darkain will have some of his photos in Stowe's Frost Park show.

by NineInchNachos on 10/24/2008 @ 7:11pm | does adam the alien win for the most rendered avatar ? |
by NineInchNachos on 10/24/2008 @ 7:14pm | A QUESTION for ELECTRIC ELLIOT:
is dave riding a garfield made of bread dough OR is dave riding a wright park lion? Your answer will help clinch my vote. Thank you. |
by jamesstoweart on 10/24/2008 @ 8:44pm | First, let me go on record as say that there are only two episodes left for me to catch up to the two current GITU(OT) leaders (the esteemed R.R. Anderson and his fantasmic chalk commentaries and the lovely Andrea Lowen, master of the sublime chalk arts). With 5 wins each that have truly proven their skill and their speed. Although I believe that I possess the abilities needed to compete with such impressive talent my win tally is somewhat lacking... So that is why I pulled out the Halloween themed "Big Guns" today. How was to know that everyone else at the park would also be carrying large caliber weapons? Also, having recieved massages from Courtney Stowe (my adorable wife and master massage therapist) I want this win even more so. You may say, but he lives with her...clearly he could have a masage whenever he wished. But I say NO! I am the child of a cobbler without any shoes. I need this win to secure massage services.
So...vote for Stowe (with assistance from skilled son Barrett) and his extra large pumpkin! |
by jamesstoweart on 10/24/2008 @ 8:49pm | That being said... I am voting for Dawn because I love her piece and its blatant promotion of the Frost Park Chalk-Off Retrospective Art Show. Dawn incorporated many past entries into a cohesive entry that invokes her first serious entry into competitive chalking (even if it was her 2nd actual entry). four uses of the word "entry" in the same sentence. Go me I looked past her obvious plumber's crack and saw a wonderful retrospective chalk piece. One of Dawn's best. Great job and worthy of many votes. |
by UnstableArt on 10/24/2008 @ 9:10pm | Took a little long to finish up this round, so I took a couple of my own photos when I was (finally) done. Speaking of taking extra time, I'm going to need some before I decide which entry to vote for.... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
by NineInchNachos on 10/24/2008 @ 9:14pm | wow Pegasuses Wolf! |
by kathy on 10/24/2008 @ 9:26pm | I vote for Sto and Barrett!!!
Nice pumpkin dude! |
by WaywardScooterGirl on 10/24/2008 @ 9:29pm | My vote goes to Stowe and the spirit of the pumpkin. |
by Erik on 10/24/2008 @ 9:30pm | Today (Episode XXIX) brings back memories of the infamous Episode V. Here was Dawn's entry from Episode V: ![]() Here was Andrea's entry from Episode V: ![]() Andrea's Jane's Hot Shop cone came from Episode IV: www.flickr.com/photos/tacoma-urbanist/se... And her Pegasus wolf from Episode IV: ![]() 9:49 p.m. and Stowe's zombie calvary looks to be arriving. :) |
by Courtney on 10/24/2008 @ 9:42pm | I know I'm a sponsor but I gotta vote for Sto. I love that kind of Halloweeny thing. |
by jcbetty on 10/24/2008 @ 9:47pm | I gotsta "GO DAWN!!" --though the Stowe&son, the Demon Frog, the Electric Elliot, and the newbie Adamthealien chalker certainly didn't disappoint... Good stuff, maynard... |
by jcbetty on 10/24/2008 @ 9:51pm | oh, dude. Just saw Andrea's triumphant finish. That is mightily impressive.
still.... Dawn ftw |
by jcbetty on 10/24/2008 @ 9:53pm | (ant, btw-- I have it on good authority that, regrettably, that is a most cruel but brilliant RR hoax-- no, CityArts won't feature that particular cover this month. But I have it on good authority-- guarantee it, in fact!-- that the cover will be pretty friggin' cool.) |
by UnstableArt on 10/24/2008 @ 10:01pm | Ok, time for me to vote. :)
I've gotta say that I was struck by Stowe's awesome Samhain, saturating the pavement with matte black in the style that made his famous volcano entry "One Day I Explode" so striking. The brilliant curls of purple and orange against the swath of supernatural night topped with the grinning Jack-O-Lantern had me thinking Nightmare Before Christmas! Loved it. Dawn's piece truly is a wonderful and witty retrospective piece and a great tribute to a few of the best entries we've had. Great execution and color! I absolutely love RxR's piece. The rich use of solid blacks, brilliant colors, and clean lines create an amazingly eye-popping piece. RxR's potbelly stove was rendered in such a way that it appears to exhibit the semi-reflective qualities its real life counterpart would have. The happy Jack-O-Lantern is adorable - the whole piece reads as a cozy, safe place to be on All Hallow's Eve. It was a tough decision to make, but my vote goes to RxR! |
by dawntown on 10/24/2008 @ 10:08pm | Me and my buttcrack are still an
UNDECIDED VOTER |
by tacomachickadee on 10/24/2008 @ 10:12pm | I wish I had time for a lengthy explain ... but am thoroughly exhausted by two children's Halloween parties tonight. And in that vein I SHOULD vote Stowe, but Dawn's tugged at my heart strings this week. So I VOTE Dawn. ... Though total kudos to all. Love RR's stuff as usual ... as a collection, he rules the world 100%. Adam's shout out to the Vlog Brothers was great. Halloween was spectacular ... and Barrett did a great job in assisting (which I'm a sucker for). Andrea's was SPECTACULAR. I wish I could hang it on my wall. Newbie had great light effects! And EE's was very fun.
If I could RCV this baby ... naw, not going there. Great work everyone! Thanks for making Fridays way special. I'm crossing my fingers for sun next Friday, as I and my munchkins have the day off of work/school and plan to make one last family appearance for the season. Must stock up on chalk ... and do sun dances. Ooh! Yoga tomorrow! I'll pay extra attention to my sun salutations or whatever they're called! :) |
by tacomachickadee on 10/24/2008 @ 10:12pm | And I guess I ended up doing a lengthy explain afterall. But now: to bed for me. Early morning yoga must not be missed due to dwelling on chalk ... |
by NineInchNachos on 10/24/2008 @ 10:28pm | I vote for the frog who's not afraid to sticky-tongue a star. I vote for the lone wolf who's not afraid to spread her wings and travel the cosmos. I vote for the cone who is not afraid to spew its star-stuff across the vacuum of space. I'm voting for these things because I believe I am that frog. I believe I am that she-wolf. But most of all.... I believe I am that cone. I vote for Andrea. |
by Erik on 10/24/2008 @ 10:30pm | Early morning yoga must not be missed due to dwelling on chalk ...
Darn. That means that we will have to wait till tomorrow for you to count the votes. Dawn improved her piece and had a good advertisement for Stowe's event. I vote Dawn. |
by NineInchNachos on 10/24/2008 @ 10:42pm | the typography of Dawn's piece was absolutely imperial |
by AngelaJossy on 10/24/2008 @ 10:45pm | I vote RR because i too love pot belly stowes! |
by AngelaJossy on 10/24/2008 @ 10:47pm | I mean stoves! |
by KevinFreitas on 10/24/2008 @ 10:53pm | I vote Stowe for the wonderfully whimsical nature of his Halloween piece. I agree with Andrea that it's very Nightmare Before Xmas. Dawn and Andrea's retrospective pieces are great and RR did well with his potbelly tribute. Cheers to all and we'll see you tomorrow night at the show! |
by jamesstoweart on 10/24/2008 @ 10:58pm | i too love pot belly stowes!
Hmmm... myself, I prefer newly flat bellied Stowes. They are all the rage. |
![]() by volcanogod on 10/24/2008 @ 11:14pm | I'd like to vote for my son's pumpkin — James Stowe's Dad. |
by jamesstoweart on 10/25/2008 @ 10:39am | Can anyone do a final tally? I am curious how the vote turned out. I think I am tied with Dawn but my math is atrocious. I am an artist...I can't do math.
Official tally request! |
by izenmania on 10/25/2008 @ 12:29pm | My count:
Stowe: 5 Dawn: 4 RR: 2 Andrea: I Karl: I Elliot: I So... Stowe wins a one hour massage IN THE COMFORT OF HIS OWN HOME... from his wife? Dawn wins giant cards. And RR gets his very own Elfquest #2! From himself! |
by tacomachickadee on 10/25/2008 @ 3:03pm | And I confirm izenmania's excellent counting with a "that's what I got, too"! Congrats everyone! See you tonight! |
