Tribune: Questionable Support for Term Limit Repeal

This year, Tacoma voters will decide whether to repeal term limits for Tacoma City Council and the mayor's office.

There are strong reasons to vote either for or against the measure.

Here's how the different sides are lining up so far according to the Tribune from a meeting on the issue as to who is going to write for and against statements:

Thirteen people signed up to write the anti-abolishment-of-term-limits piece. Names on the list include those well-known to city government, including Tom Stenger, Marty Campbell, Charles "Kelly" Creso and Catherine Ushka-Hall.

Just one person signed up to write in support of Ladenburg's proposition:  Randy Harrison. (Jesse/Robert/"The Traveller" Hill also submitted his name, but was told he didn't make the cut-off.)

I'd rather see them keep the term limits, but make council service a full time paid position.

Raise limits from 10 years to 12 to allow three full 4-year terms. That's plenty.

I think that was Strickland's proposed amendment. However, it did not receive enough votes.
