|I hope the weather at noon is as nice (but a little warmer) than it is right now. I unfortunately, will either be involved in getting my coif shortened, or my fitness improved in a distance run in the U District in Seattle. No working in Tacoma for me today. Major Sadness.
Have fun fellow Chalkies!

|I haven't gotten down there with my brushes and pails yet this season. Was there was a substantial enough amount of clean slate (concrete)?
Nice work, Nick! I've been pondering a piece, but don't have a subject yet. Your idea and execution is excellent. So far that's a a front-runner for me. What the heck, I know I'm still going to vote for Nick, so I'll open up voting by push-pinning my VOTE on Nick's piece.
by FrostPark on 4/24/2009 @ 2:32pm
|This week's pictures are fun to look at because of the ghosts of Episodes 2 and 3.|
Now for commentary:
RR gives an amazing tribute to our Beluga friends at PDZA, as we are soon to be beluga-less with Beethoven moving to a new home.
I'm a sucker for Andrea's work, but maybe then again it's because I'm a Trenbeath fan-boi. This is like a mix of TMNT, Snake-Eyes from G*I*JOE and Spider Man... awesome spewage from the ATL vessel.
Mark's stuff is always fun. but I imagine it's because he's not thinking about his knees and is able to focus on the art.
Stowe... in a few short years you'll be charging tens of thousands of dollars for your chalk art and we'll all say I remember when...
But my VOTE is for NICK this week. The perspective and shadow are amazing, but on top of that he managed to incorporate the ghosts of my shield and Adam's park detail from last week into his piece by placing his map strategically over the others.
P.S. Dave_L is there a day next week that works for you? I am generally driving past Frost Park about 5:30 on any given evening, I could throw some buckets and brushes in the back of my pickup and help scrub down the park if needed.
by Erik Hanberg on 4/24/2009 @ 3:11pm
|I'd like to vote for Nick as well.
Miss it this week. Will be there again soon.

|Re Monolux pix titled "Erik chatting"
Indeed Erik is the Mad Chatter as eloquently demonstrated in his big time Melon Interview.
by Erik on 4/24/2009 @ 4:13pm
|Great pictures Mark.
Yes, I like Nick's piece too. It turned out really well on film. Julian Beever would be proud of you.
Nick's piece looked even better when the word Google could be seen on it. I vote for Nick.
by izenmania on 4/24/2009 @ 4:55pm
|The message I took away from Adam's piece is that we all need to start killing trees before they grow too large and EAT THE WORLD.|
by KevinFreitas on 4/24/2009 @ 5:48pm
|I can never think of something witty to say so I'll just vote. Nick. ;)
Great job out there everyone -- nice to be back. Look forward to the rest of the season. Some really inspired work today. Oh, and congrats to Ariel and John on their impending little lump of clay!

|This is Libby masquerading as Kevin, voting enthusiastically for Nick.
Kevin, Kevin, Kevin. You of all people know there is one vote per person.
If "Libby" is actually a different person, perhaps you can set her up with her own avatar and Feed Tacoma account. Just have her email Kevin Freitas.....hey...that's you. :)
by Joel 413 on 4/24/2009 @ 9:28pm
|Or libby could use my avatar to vote, since I was obviously logged on as 'Frost Park' ... see the park was even biased.. had I been fully aware that I was logged into that account, I would have written the post a little differently.. Oh well...
No vote from me as I already voted under a different nom de plume
by Dianne on 4/24/2009 @ 10:09pm
|Stowe's waterfall is awesome, so realistic.
I vote for Ariel because her sprout makes me think of Little Shop of Horrors.
by ElectricElliot on 4/24/2009 @ 10:26pm
|I second the sprout. Vote for Ariel.|
by Wings_of_Change on 4/24/2009 @ 10:33pm
|Wow, this week is really a hard choice.
I think I will also vote for me. Mostly because I am amazed I was able to bust something out that cool when I got there so late.
I think both Nick and Stowe's pieces are uber-awsome. Way to go chalkies!
by NineInchNachos on 4/24/2009 @ 10:40pm

|I think Kevin became a "multiple" on his recent trip. Who will we meet next week, Kev?|
by Earthdaughter on 4/24/2009 @ 10:47pm
|Very difficult choice this week. I truly resonate with the little green sprout since I'm building gardens and growing food. And I am agape at Stowe's waterfall! The use of the intersecting planes to continue the image is beautiful. Aargh! Can I be twins and vote for both? Shucks. Ok. Sorry, Ariel, but I'm voting for the waterfall.|
by Wings_of_Change on 4/24/2009 @ 10:53pm
|Thats perfectly ok. Dude, That waterfall is awesome!|
by Libby on 4/24/2009 @ 10:54pm
|This is Libby masquerading as myself... voting enthusiastically for Nick... again... but technically this is my first and only vote... i *think*|
by Frinklin on 4/24/2009 @ 10:58pm
|I'm sorry, but must I point out there is a Ninja. I mean, waterfalls are gorgeous and Google Map point is amusing, but people, don't you always have to vote for ninjas?
I do anyway.
by NineInchNachos on 4/24/2009 @ 11:05pm
|The ninja is clearly a humanoid with a reptilian ninja turtle mask... Andrea can you please explain yourself?
Stowe is now the Thomas Kinkade of sidewalk chalk.
by NineInchNachos on 4/24/2009 @ 11:12pm
|@"Libby" hey did Kevin bring you back from Scotland?|
by NineInchNachos on 4/24/2009 @ 11:16pm
|I cannot vote for NICK as his google map pin is clearly incorrect... what happened to the red tear drop with the black dot?|
by NineInchNachos on 4/24/2009 @ 11:25pm
|I encourage anyone who voted for this NICK person to please go back and change your votes to another more correct chalk art entry.
The more I think about it, if you DO vote for NICK you're voting for a lie. Maybe he's just trying to avoid a copyright infringement from the google corporation right? that's what you're thinking eh? I'm not so sure.
by NineInchNachos on 4/24/2009 @ 11:30pm
Wouldn't you rather vote for your pal RR? Doesn't this happy go lucky Beluga whale tug at your heart strings? He's had some rough times. His best friend died recently. And he's getting sent to Texas (a fate worse than death). OR maybe this is supposed to be a drawing of the dead Beluga whale. Who knows! it's impossible to tell them apart anyhow.
Clearly a Ninja Turtle Mask.
by Adam the Alien on 4/24/2009 @ 11:39pm
|I cannot vote for NICK as his google map pin is clearly incorrect... what happened to the red tear drop with the black dot?
RR, you're assuming he's trying to imitate Google Maps.
Actually, the pin is a feature of the program known as Google Earth.
by NineInchNachos on 4/24/2009 @ 11:42pm
|"Actually, the pin is a feature of the program known as Google Earth."
by Wings_of_Change on 4/24/2009 @ 11:49pm
|man, you have both led me to spend WAY too much time on google. shame on you.|
by ALT on 4/24/2009 @ 11:50pm
|Damn this is a toughie. So many good entries this week. I got a kick out of Mark's dragon baby, and I love RxR's Beluga. However I did a double take when I saw Stowe's waterfall. So rich and realistic.
I vote Stowe. :)
by NineInchNachos on 4/24/2009 @ 11:50pm
|I still think you shouldn't vote for something just because it is a feature in this supposed 'google earth' program and it is given dynamic illusionary charcoal hyper-shade.|
by NineInchNachos on 4/24/2009 @ 11:55pm
|Oh another reason you shouldn't vote for Nick is that when I was drawing my Beluga whale... my friend told me that he heard Nick whispering to one of his friends that he was glad the Point Defiance Zoo Beluga whale was dead... and that dead Beluga whales made him happy.... and that he also hates all ocean creatures. |
Is that the kind of artist you wanna vote for?
by deeble interactive on 4/24/2009 @ 11:59pm
|nin, you are so full of crap you could be elected governor of alaska.
in honor of earth day, I vote for the google earth pin. I vote for nick.

|I vote for Stowe.|
by marumaruyopparai on 4/25/2009 @ 12:09am
|A good god awful lot of WIN this week, Stowe's waterfall is full of win. As Zen as Stowe's waterfall is the Alien's picturesque vigil of the Earth from the surface of the moon is also super Zen.
Did anyone vote for RR, I didn't see any. I mean sure, he seems to be grubbing for votes this week and utilizing unscrupulous commentary to detract votes from competitors, but is that any reason to take it out on the poor whale?
I don't know how you people choose every week. If I were a Tacoman, I would vote for the Alien just 'cause I dig the creativity and the grandness of his entry and because I'm surprised he hasn't already got a vote for that.
But that whale sure does tug at the heart strings. . .
by NineInchNachos on 4/25/2009 @ 12:12am
|I vote for Stowe's beautiful waterfall.
One time I went camping with my best friend's Mormon church youth group. One guy asked us to answer the question: if you were a body of water what would you be? I answered 'thundering waterfall' other guys answered things like "kettle pond. lake. creek." after everybody finished answering the dude said our answers were metaphors to how we think about sex.
Mormon youth are very sick people.
by NineInchNachos on 4/25/2009 @ 12:16am
|adam the alien's piece really has a good 'the little prince' planet feel goin on--which is rad when you consider my opening chalk sermon quote at the beginning of this page.|

|good shot of mark

Looks like the buzzer sounded before you voted RR.
We will have to wait until tacomachickadee or someone else decides to make an official vote count. But the way it looks now, Nick's Google earth wins.

|Ha - some great pics this week. (RR probably picked up some plumbing tools at the Restore.) I took the wee beasties to FP yesterday evening, and for unofficial counting, my daughter votes for RR, Monlux, and Stowe. My son votes for Stowe. Unforunately, despite the character issues RR has intruduced regarding the recipient of my vote, plus some animal costume issues and webcam footage that concerns me, it is too late to retract my vote. But looking at the pieces in person, I was also blown away by Master-of-Chalk Stowe's waterfall flowing onto the sidewalk, and RR's non-panicky beluga, and perfect quote reference.
413c.i., thanks for the offer of chalk-washing assistance. I've just been stuck late at work most days, but I'll let you know if I can get to it this week and at 5:30. The fountains were dry yesterday, so we may have to fetch it from Scout's. Or I can hand over my FP buckets and brushes to someone else if they'd like.

May have missed one or two, but not enough to change the fact that WINNAH: NICK.

For those who are not yet YouTube-savvy, do please click on the "HQ" to view it in in high quality. If the HQ is highlighted red, you should be viewing in high quality.
I should point out that R.R.'s inspirational quote and Little Prince observation inspired the title.

And do please go vote for her latest song, "Our American Cousin", in the final round of QuickStop Entertainment's Song Fu competition: www.quickstopentertainment.com/2009/04/2...
by Adam the Alien on 4/26/2009 @ 11:46pm
|Sadly, I will shortly run out of her songs, until she writes more. I will then have to switch to other musicians, such as the good Dr. Noise.

That dirty rat! I told him not to tell anyone! Well, since the tally is now done I suppose my secret no longer needs to be kept . . . on second thought, let's make sure my hate for ocean creatures does not leave this thread...
by Nick on 4/27/2009 @ 9:11am
|. . . and thank for all the votes everyone!|
I'll throw in my obligatory "I've never won anything before!" As for the rest of you, let's just say you're in league with the beluga whale as far as I'm concerned - you'd better stick to shallow waters unless you want to lose a flipper.
(and RR - for the record, the red pin also happens to be the iPhone's map marker of choice, so ha!)
by NineInchNachos on 4/27/2009 @ 12:17pm
|Nice work Nick, you've won fair and square despite my political mud slinging whisper campaign flack defenses. You've won a hot library copy of "PIRATES AND THE MOUSE: DISNEY'S WAR ON COUNTER CULTURE" book published by our own FANTAGRAPHICS (Seattle, Wa).
Present yourself at next frost park challenge to collect your prize!
by bluegodjanus on 5/1/2009 @ 11:52pm
