First Night 2010, Year of the Tiger

Ready to say goodbye to 2009?  2010 is the Year of the Tiger, an animal which symbolizes bravery and a readiness to meet all challenges with confidence that you will land on your feet.

We at First Night Tacoma-Pierce County have decided to go ahead and ring in the Year of the Tiger before the official start of the lunar new year, with a celebration of art, life, and a little bit of bravery in downtown Tacoma's theater district this December 31st.

2010 is a "Metal Tiger" year, a year to set your sites on a challenge and see it through to the end, whatever it takes.

We are ready to meet the tiger and hear your suggestions, as we get ready to (symbolically) kick 2009's butt and celebrate a new year for our city and region.

We'd love to hear your feedback on this blog, as well as sign you up to volunteer

For updates, stay tuned to this blog and the First Night Tacoma Pierce County website.

It's the eye of the tiger,
it's the thrill of one fight
rising up to the challenge of our rivals...

Oh man, they should so get the band Survivor to play... although I do think that The Search is Over and High On You are waaaaay better than Eye of the Tiger.

Hah, hadn't thought of that. I think I know what music I'm adding to the Myspace profile...

Those 70s and 80s bands are still pretty popular, even amongst us Gen-Y nimrods. I constantly see washed-up 60s and 70s groups at the EQC.
I doubt we could get Duran Duran or Journey and their Steve Perry sound-a-like, but Survivor? Ice House? Europe? Pet Shop Boys? Winger? Limhal? House of Pain? Alphaville? Lover Boy? Nu Shooz? Kajagoogoo? A Flock of Seagulls? Men At Work? Cinderella? White Snake? Warrant? Poision? White Lion? Falco? Wait, Falco died. What about Taco? I think he's still around.

Oh man, that would be freaking sweet to have a former 80s supergroup @ First Night. If Men At Work was there, we'd quadruple the attendance! Imagine the heavy synthesizers and rumbling bass of Europe playing The Final Countdown in the street. Makes me giddy!

Actually, come to think of it, White Lion would be a pretty good show.

If we could obtain a sponsor with specific interest in bringing an 80s power group to Tacoma for the big night, we might be able to make something like that happen.

Anybody Interested?

How do we go about that?

Also of course there is something in it for the sponsor. Our major sponsorship level packages:

and Friends of First Night:

I'm working on it already. Great idea Thorax! Perhaps we could share the band with EQC...
We're looking for a metal artist as well. Call or email us! We're all ears and eyes.

Do we have a "Drinking Buddy of First Night" or maybe a "Casual Acquaintance of First Night"? I'm more in the "$20 and under" category recently...

You know, we should. but since we're supposed to be alcohol free, perhaps we'll have t create a Latte Sipper Level of sponsorship. We'll work on it. Thanks!
