This Tuesday at the Market

6th Ave Farmers Market

August 12th at the 6th Ave Farmers Market

The weather forecast is indicating perfect weather for a farmers market!

Full Circle will be bringing cucumbers and Romano beans. They may even have some green beans. Say hey to Ari at her new location on the corner of 6th Ave and North Pine.

Alvarez Farms is going to try to make it over the mountains this week with some fresh, organic tomatoes. They've been facing some staff shortages but Marysol Alvarez is going to try to make the trip herself to bring us the produce this week. If she makes it, you'll be able to find her next to the Organic Dog Treats, across the way from Cheryl the Pig Lady.

Look for some newly ripening varieties of peaches, pluots, and plums.

Spread the news! Many of our fruit and vegetable farmers accept WIC and SFMNP checks. Just look for the WIC signs hanging in their tent!

Estrella Family Creamery will be back from a well deserved vacation. They will be set up in there normal spot, next to Nash.

Take a minute to stop and talk to Dan of UBuildIt. You'll be glad you did. Dan is a great guy, has volunteered valuable time to the market, and is very interesting to talk to. He chose his office location on 6th Ave for a reason; ask him about it! UBuildIt is one of the bigger sponsors of the farmers market and we are happy that he can spend some time hanging out with us this week, visiting and meeting the neighbors.

Chef Demo at 5:30 by Chef Diane of Herban Cafe.

Music by local Tacoma artist Joshua Adams right after the Chef Demo. He'll be playing a solo acoustic set for us. I'm listening to him right now on myspace and I'm pretty impressed and looking forward to his performance tomorrow. (And if that isn't enough local music for you, right after Joshua Adams, you'll be able to listen to Ed Taylor's jazz band play at Engine House #9. I wish I could join you there for a beer and some of that yummy fire pasta.)

For the kids, head up the street after the market to Herban Cafe for some facepainting or to the Costume Shop for storytime.

Looking for a fabulous, foodie date night? Check out our upcoming Harvest Feast to be held at Terry's Berries on September 13! Tickets are selling fast; you can get yours at Brown Paper Tickets: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/40339.

Oh, and if you see me at the market, please stop and say hi! I get a little bit of tunnel vision, so you'll have to jump in front of me, but I'd really like to chat for a few minutes!

After I wrote this last night, we ate the dinner that Rick made of some of our market purchases from last week. Holy cow - the beef from Stokesberry is good! A t-bone, an ear of roasted corn, and a salad from our garden, topped with a little goat cheese... an amazing summer meal. Also amazing was knowing that the cows were raised humanely and that there were no hormones, pesticides, or herbicides in my meal. I'm all fat and sassy this morning :)

We bought some produce at the market tonight. It was our first visit to the 6th ave location. There was a great jazz band playing at the E9 so after picking up our produce we stopped in there for cool one. I recommend the 6th Ave Farmers Market, we'll be back for sure.

About

Hello! I'm Heather and I'm a bit manic about Tacoma.

I'll probably be blogging about my experiences in Tacoma as they relate to the environment (natural and built), social (in)justice, community building, economic development, bio-diesel, public transit, biking, gardening, home improvement, food & wine, and my little family (me, my husband, one dog, one cat). This is my first attempt at writing a blog - so please bear with me.
