What are some good singles places?

I'm looking for some ideal singles hang out places. Note that I'm not interested in going to a bar as I don't drink or smoke. I mean a different , more sober type of environment.

Frost Park worked for me.

Honestly, I had this issue too. I'm not a drinker, so the bar was not my scene. I mostly did the online dating thing and finding people via friends/social gatherings I was already attending. And once via work. I don't recommend that one.

The theatre is a good place to meet people, and it's fun. Try volunteering at a community theatre!

by KevinFreitas on 4/12/2012 @ 6:59am
Frost Park is a great one and I'd agree with volunteering too! You can also start interacting with people on local websites like FeedTacoma (well done!) or strike up conversations with other locals via Twitter or Facebook. Tacoma's a small enough town that it's easy to take those conversations from digital to real life if you want.

I've tried Twitter, and Facebook. I've yet to actually meet anyone through those sites.

Are there activities that go on at Frost park? Is that where they have the chalk drawings on Fridays?

I agree, work isn't a good place. It's easy to get a crush on a girl, only to find out she has a boyfriend or husband, and you have to work with that person almost everyday and hear how great their bf or husband is.

friday frost park chalk off. BABE MAGNET!

Does the Narrows Theater on 6th avenue count as a "community" theater?

by The Jinxmedic on 4/12/2012 @ 8:18am
Bull's Eye indoor range. (No drinking or smoking permitted there.)

by InvaderPet on 4/12/2012 @ 8:19am
What is that place?

by fredo on 4/12/2012 @ 8:21am
Those are some good recommendations. I would go to places where ambitious, physically fit, and motivated type women might show up. Here are some specific ideas: Edgeworks Indoor Climbing, Metropolitan Mkt., Susan B. Komen fundraisers, Annie Wright School events, Sound to Narrows events. Good luck.

Metro Market is a good place. Last time I was in there picking up some desert for a Friday night dinner party and it was like a singles club in there! (Meat market? Blerg...)

Anyways, the best way to meet a woman is to just be open to it, smile a lot, and talk to people like they're old friends wherever you go. Don't just single out single ladies to talk to either. There have been plenty of times where I was talking to someone (I get in moods where I'll talk to anyone) completely different when I was noticed by someone else that was looking for an excuse to talk too and it gave her the opportunity to pipe in.

So the best place to go to meet a woman is in your mind. That is, be open to it and use your demeanor.

by fredo on 4/12/2012 @ 9:18am
spot on advice jesse. be flirtatious with all women, young women, middle aged women, old women, married women. You can't just save this until you meet the ultimate woman. It has to become part of your basic demeanor. IMO

Dorky's Arcade. Tacoma Farmer's Market. Point Defiance Park, especially with spring/summer weather on the way. Hang out at a local coffee shop or Mad Hat Tea Company.

by tacoma_1 on 4/12/2012 @ 9:43am
It certainly depends on the age group that your looking for, but you could add Watson's Nursery and the Tacoma Mountaineers to the list.

Join one or more of the book clubs at King's Books. They have plenty to choose from. Even if you don't find someone you like or hit it off with, you'll end up with some good reads and new friends.

Banned Books; Capes and Cowls (superheroes); Classics; GLBT; Gleaning (and sustainable eating/farming); Graphic Novel (mostly non-superhero); Spanish-language; Vegan.

King's Books also holds poetry readings and other events each month. Sign up for the email newsletter.

I agree with @Jesse and @Troy and would add that your goal shouldn't be to meet women to fall for and marry and have kids and die with -- BUT instead just to meet people. Being open and willing to just plain chat someone up is HUGE. If love comes let that be a happy side effect.

It's my favorite niche.

I have a single daughter in her early 30s - tell me about yourself!

by NineInchNachos on 4/12/2012 @ 1:53pm
what is she waiting for!

by InvaderPet on 4/12/2012 @ 2:08pm
I really should just request a Friday off.

by debivans on 4/12/2012 @ 2:54pm
The Stranger's Lovelab online is awesome but it's all Sea-town. Tacoma really could use a decent personals that is not craigslist or some pay site. Hint, hint Volcano, feed>>tacoma even?

by InvaderPet on 4/12/2012 @ 3:00pm

Early 30s? Well, I'm 24. I like going out to a movie with a person, going out to eat, or just someplace fun, like maybe Sprinker Skate center. I like a woman who enjoys and appreciates animation (mostly classic), comedy, some Sci-Fi. Enjoys listening to oldies music (60s to 80s).

I like video games, drawing, writing, maybe just going for a walk through Snake Lake, or Point Definace zoo. Really like animals.

Hey, Jane, your daughter's name wouldn't happen to be "Judy" would it?

by acapere on 4/12/2012 @ 3:59pm
Thanks for using my chalk art!

As Thorax pointed out, Frost Park worked for us. We are happy, and I cannot imagine a more perfect weirdo for me. He gets me - even the less than perfect stuff. And I love him.

I wholeheartedly recommend Frost Park for your dating needs! But remember, it happens when you least expect it. ;)

by cisserosmiley on 4/12/2012 @ 4:19pm
@Brandon, consider staying single. If not try the women on there like to cook for their men and they are more moral than other Tacoma girls.

by KevinFreitas on 4/12/2012 @ 4:42pm
Personals/Classifieds, hmm @debivans? Anyone dare me to build this tonight? :)

by NineInchNachos on 4/12/2012 @ 4:53pm
yeah brandon, you don't want to get stuck buying a bunch of Ikea furniture.

by InvaderPet on 4/12/2012 @ 5:06pm
Well, it's not my goal to just jump in and get married. I just would like someone to hang out with, go places with, watching movies with, do fun stuff together with. That's what I'd like for now. I don't really have that.

by L.S.Erhardt on 4/12/2012 @ 5:07pm
Do it, Kevin. Seriously, DO IT

by CaptainBritton on 4/12/2012 @ 5:19pm
Kevin this should be a part of the site, yes.

And InvaderPet, there is nothing wrong with dating/befriending/falling for an older woman. In fact it's preferable in many cases... Just sayin', keep your mind open, man.

by InvaderPet on 4/12/2012 @ 5:26pm
Oh, I have absolutely no problem with older women (most of my female celebrity crushes are older than me). Well, maybe going out with a woman in her 50s MIGHT be pushing it, but I'm probably not in any place to be picky with who wants to be around me.

by L.S.Erhardt on 4/12/2012 @ 5:33pm
"I'm probably not in any place to be picky with who wants to be around me."

You need more self-esteem than that.

by debivans on 4/12/2012 @ 6:29pm
Dare, dare, dare! DO IT Kevin! I will be the first poster.

It needs a name though. How about Singles of Destiny or The Bubble Room?

by L.S.Erhardt on 4/12/2012 @ 6:47pm
"The Feed Dome"

by Jesse on 4/12/2012 @ 6:56pm
Is this how Kevin "accidentally" becomes a millionaire?

by cisserosmiley on 4/12/2012 @ 8:42pm
Just watch out for escort ads in the feed Tacoma store

by NineInchNachos on 4/12/2012 @ 8:47pm

by InvaderPet on 4/12/2012 @ 9:11pm
I like the book club idea. Found out King's Books has a comic book club.

by KevinFreitas on 4/12/2012 @ 10:19pm
And here 'tis, the new FeedTacoma bulletin board: No account required so come one, come all! Buy, sell, rent, event, date, etc. Spread the good word and let Tacoma know!

by cisserosmiley on 4/13/2012 @ 7:22am
@Brandon, I saw on fb that kaeley triller was now single. Serendipity?

by InvaderPet on 4/13/2012 @ 7:43am
No. I think that kinda sucks for her.

I have tried staying in contact with Kaeley through facebook, trying to friend her, but she has never accepted any requests, so I stopped a couple years ago. I am still in contact with a few others from the YMCA, and some I've tried to track down, but have never found like Kellen and Angela.

by InvaderPet on 4/13/2012 @ 8:44pm
I requested Friday the 27th off. Hope I get it. I want to finally go to the chalk off.
