Automated call from TPD re: protests
Our office just got an automated call from the TPD regarding today's protests downtown. They encouraged business as usual and that they'll allow any sanctioned protests that are conducted lawfully. They also made a nod to past anarchist activities and mentioned cleaning up anything sitting outside a building -- likely so they can't burn or toss it through windows.
Will these protests be a big issue or a big nothing? If you have any cellphone pics of the excitement feel free to email them and I'll put 'em up. Stay tuned...
by intacoma on 11/9/2007 @ 9:14am | Komo4 is already parked downtown |
by KevinFreitas on 11/9/2007 @ 9:44am | The "official" protest kicks off at Tollefson at 11am. We'll see how things go from there. |
by NineInchNachos on 11/9/2007 @ 10:39am | anybody get a recording of the TPD automaton ? |
by KevinFreitas on 11/9/2007 @ 10:53am | Tried but no. There's a helicopter circling now and a few sirens. The protest is gearing up to start so the chopper is probably just doing a fly-by and the sirens, well, nothing unusual there. |
by NineInchNachos on 11/9/2007 @ 11:22am | things are still quiet over on 9th&Commerce |
by NineInchNachos on 11/9/2007 @ 12:40pm | so yeah. Protest? big let down. a squadron of TPD goons, a few hippies with drums, many confused Tacomans looking out of their buildings with digital cameras.
- no fires - no beatings - no broken windows - no upside down police cruisers on fire and we're still stuck with a rotten government. |
by KevinFreitas on 11/9/2007 @ 12:58pm | Some pics of the occasion |
by Jake on 11/9/2007 @ 1:01pm | There seems to be a lot of air traffic. I have seen helicopters and I keep hearing a small plane (state patrol?) flying over downtown. I also notice the TPD recording the crowd with a pretty fancy looking video recorder. There were a few people in the crowd that had bandannas over their faces. |
by KevinFreitas on 11/9/2007 @ 1:58pm | Saw that big cam TPD was using too. Maybe it has infrared so they can see through any masks. Nevertheless, "this protest may be recorded for quality assurance." ;) |

About
Although I have another home on the web I thought it might be nice to lead by example a bit and put this blog system up to the test myself.
So far, so good... Funny how I build web tools for other people that are far better than the one's I have setup over on KFnet.
