Driving by on Tyler the other day I saw some love being given to a community garden near Center Street. One young man led two girls in caring for the plot of raised beds in an otherwise unused grassy corner in the Oakland/Madrona neighborhood. I don't see this one on either the Tacoma Gardens or Metro Parks lists so it may truly be a garden created by the community. Whatever the case, it was a charming site on a beautiful Spring afternoon.
Do you know where the nearest community garden to you is? Any suggestions for where new ones might go?

|What a coincidence! I took a pic of a similar scene at this garden yesterday, while waiting at the light. It was great to see a group of girls out working (playing?) with some shovels.

|we need to take over unused space and create more community gardens! don't let the condos develop. more gardens, not condos.

|I posted my pic on Flickr, since it is a slightly different perspective from yours and includes different kids.

|There is talk about turning the future UWT campus into community gardens. Since the campus won't be fully developed for decades to come, it makes sense to put the land to some sort of interim use.
Anyone got a backhoe?
Although I have another home on the web I thought it might be nice to lead by example a bit and put this blog system up to the test myself.
So far, so good... Funny how I build web tools for other people that are far better than the one's I have setup over on KFnet.
