Cupcakes Coming to Proctor

Looks like Proctor will soon get some sweets a niceties for the ladies. Being a gent I'm perfectly happy accompanying that special someone to a place like this to look for great things to wear whilst I lose myself in a tiny, tasty cake.
We could be in for some quality style of the exterior of this spot on Proctor between 26th and Met. Market judging by some of the bright colors they're testing out on the front door. Will all this be a winning combination for the neighborhood? If hello, cupcake and Corina Bakery are any signpost I'd say they point to "yes" -- as long as the food's good. ;)

by Crenshaw Sepulveda on 4/29/2009 @ 11:00am | Just the other day I was telling someone what we need is more cupcake shops in this town. I was up in Seattle the other day and t he place is crawling with cupcake shops, we are falling behind. |
by morgan on 4/29/2009 @ 11:24am | The trend started in New York 10 years ago. The latest trend is to start homemade candy shops. I'm there! |
by Thorax O'Tool on 4/29/2009 @ 11:41am | Cupcakes are ok. Not excactly my bag, if you catch my drift.
What I really want to see is for-real boulangerie in Tacoma. |
by Nick on 4/29/2009 @ 12:02pm | How about a cereal joint ala Cereality? I've always thought this was a brilliant idea, just dying for someone with the cash to open one up around here. I'd probably be a daily patron. |
by Erik on 4/29/2009 @ 12:06pm | I think it could work here fine.
The sign has been up for months. Hopefully, they will follow through with the idea. This house has had a lot of ideasplanned for it. It would be nice to see the place open with the recent closure of Art and Soul in Proctor. |
by NineInchNachos on 4/29/2009 @ 12:06pm | does tacoma have a cupcake gap with our friendly neighbor to the north? |
by Crenshaw Sepulveda on 4/29/2009 @ 3:57pm | Can't we get a muffin top franchise here in Tacoma? |
by ensie on 4/29/2009 @ 7:43pm | What I wouldn't give to have a decent bagel shop. I know Cascade closed, but to be honest, their bagels tasted like round bread, as opposed to that bagel-y taste you get with really good bagels. |
by KevinFreitas on 7/8/2009 @ 7:32am | UPDATE: Hmm. Guess the owners bowed to the fact their sign out front said "Spring '09". Compare:![]() and ![]() They got some painting and such done though. Here's to hoping we get a taste soon! |
by morgan on 7/8/2009 @ 9:21am | The word at this week's North End Neighborhood Council meeting is that Cupcakes & Couture hopes to be open in a few weeks. I hope it's worth the wait! |
by KevinFreitas on 7/8/2009 @ 9:48am | Me too. It'll be nice to have a drop-in place like this in the neighborhood to grab a sweet treat. Wonder if they'll do espresso or anything as well? |
by wildcelticrose on 7/8/2009 @ 5:39pm | I get my mail at the UPS store and the promise of cupcakes has been teasing me way too long...
I want sweet buttercreamy goodness!!! |
by Dave_L on 7/8/2009 @ 6:11pm | Shanghai House beat them to opening. Does that say Couture? I worked with the Coutures, and they didn't seem like the cupcake type to me. "How about a cereal joint..." Nice. Especially if I can get favorites like Quisp and Quake. Can only get Quisp mail-order. This must be the place then? View Larger Map |
by Mofo from the Hood on 7/9/2009 @ 12:56am | Quisp and Quake!
Serious? Would that be original recipe new inventory?; or are the mail-order packages pulled from 1969 inventory and yet still fresh due to military-grade chemical preservatives? |
by KevinFreitas on 7/9/2009 @ 6:48am | @Dave: That be the place, yup. Certainly looks better with the work they've done already! |
by Dave_L on 7/9/2009 @ 8:55am | Thanks for recognizing, Mofo. (Are you an old fart, too?) Remember Pink Panther Flakes (ick!) or when Ogg was the cocoa Crispies mascot? The Quisp I recently purchased is not NOS, but "NORS." I ordered fresh Quisp (for a space-themed party) from this place: www.hometownfavorites.com/ I understand it’s still available in select regions www.quisp.com. |
by Crenshaw Sepulveda on 7/9/2009 @ 10:27am | People mail ordering cereal @ 7 bucks a box with shipping. No wonder our economy is where it is. Get a clue, it is all the same stuff with a different picture on the box. I'm getting my cereal locally for less than the shipping on this fancy cereal. |
by fredo on 7/9/2009 @ 11:42am | Nick and Dave L@ Check out this video: "Flakes" |
by Dave_L on 7/9/2009 @ 12:14pm | I'll check it out. Not to digress further, but lest someone think I was serious, I did just order Quisp for the specific event in question and to show my kids that and the Pop-Rocks. And yes, the nostalgia. (O.K., it was mid-life crisis purchase.) Plus, I wanted to see if they looked smaller now that I'm a big kid. The shipping WAS a shocker. Quisp and Quake is/was pretty much like Cap'n Crunch and several other cereals. But Quisp would not be able to travel through space on the shape of a Cap'n Crunch nugget. |
by KevinFreitas on 7/25/2009 @ 6:45pm | The place is getting better looking all the time. Someone was out painting the fence today and there's a sign up that they're hiring baristas and bakers.
It'd be great to see them open before summer's end so they can benefit from the foot traffic that comes with the good weather. |

Nice. Being open when Farmers Market is open will create some good synergy. |
by Mofo from the Hood on 7/25/2009 @ 9:42pm | Man, that yard decor has it goin' on. How about two yard cats? Call 'em Quisp and Quake. |
by Thorax O'Tool on 7/26/2009 @ 4:12pm | ...Our house is a very, very, very fine house
With two cats in the yard Life used to be so hard Now everything is easy 'Cause of you And our la la lala la la la lala la la lala lala la lala lala lala la la lala la la la la la I'll light the fire While you place the flowers in the vase That you bought today... |
by KevinFreitas on 8/26/2009 @ 4:42pm | Update:
Word just came my way that Cupcakes & Couture is coming to Proctor Saturday, Sept. 12! Should make for a great day -- hit the farmers' market then sugar up! Thanks Libby! |
by KevinFreitas on 8/26/2009 @ 6:16pm | And that same lovely source just informed me that the place will be called Sweet Things Cupcakes. Can't wait to taste their wares! |
by Thorax O'Tool on 8/26/2009 @ 6:44pm | Will they have those not-so-sweet red kind? |

Nice. Can't wait! |
by Erik on 9/12/2009 @ 9:08am | Ok Folks. Potential flash mob time.
According to their sign that was out last night, today is supposed to the opening day for Cupcakes and Couture on Proctor just south of 26th Street. Farmers Market is open today as well in Proctor. See you there. |
by KevinFreitas on 9/12/2009 @ 9:55am | Already been. Post and pics coming soon... |

by Thorax O'Tool on 9/12/2009 @ 12:16pm | Do they have those not-so-sweet red kind? |
by Erik on 9/12/2009 @ 3:39pm | They had all sorts there.
The house is really renovated well. Also in Proctor, one can see the revisions in process in the Safeway store as well as the new salon going in where Art and Soul used to be. |
by Crenshaw Sepulveda on 9/12/2009 @ 4:02pm | We better not talk too loud about our fancy new Safeway and the tasty cupcakes that can be had in Tacoma. They might find up in Seattle and try to steal these away as well. |

Although I have another home on the web I thought it might be nice to lead by example a bit and put this blog system up to the test myself.
So far, so good... Funny how I build web tools for other people that are far better than the one's I have setup over on KFnet.
