Hey Clear Channel, Clean Up Your Crap! (Supplemental)

It certainly hasn't been my life's dream to document billboard decay and blight in Tacoma but the above is worth noting. The City of Tacoma may be waiting to make the call on digital billboards but the rules and standards for static billboards are in place and this clearly violates them and is getting worse.

Madame Mayor and Council Members: Tear down this billboard!

I think your date stamp needs a correction Kev. That's a good sequence though. Bravo.

Billboards are apparently still given a free blight pass in Tacoma.

Oh right... super valuable properties like the two at the 7-11 on 6th/alder that had two crumbling PSAs that were replaced by two new PSAs, which are now crumbling.

Not buying it.

Apparently they are not worth enough to maintain from being continual blights on the city but still worth 7500000000 pennies!

The city needs to get out in front of this one and photograph all the billboards displaying PSAs. This is most of them.

TACOMA IS THE FRONT LINE IN A HOLY WAR WITH OUTDOOR ADVERTISING - crosscut.com/2011/09/23/neighborhoods-co...

for the first time in a long time we are described in the media as feisty. how cool is that?

That was a great article, lots of compliments for Tacoma.

The part that really shocked me was this:

"And they refined it in other ways: It will allow digital boards only in urban, not rural areas, and require shorter pauses between their shuffling images, ostensibly to reduce distraction (though itís hard to see how that will help)."

So they actually *asked* for shorter change times? Not only is that more distracting, but it actually allows Clear Channel to change the signs more times per minute. This puts money in Clear Channel's pocket. Why would they do that?

King County Council is ON THE TAKE!!! they're in the hip pocket... suckling the teet... sloppy on the joe. I call for immediate ethics investigation. David Horsey is asleep at the wheel. sonsofbitches!

What possible explanation could there be for this exemption if Clear Channel didn't write the ordinance themselves?

"The new ordinance, while providing some parameters on digital billboard lighting, exempts digital billboards from existing rules that forbid illuminated signs from shining direct light into homes or onto public areas."

I'm just glad someone is following the fact that Hague and Phillips are tools for the Lippens family.

pretty sure that Clear Channel is not planning to remove the non conforming billboards in the next few months as ordered by the city.

why do I say that?

in my part of Tacoma the company is painting out all the graffiti to make the old signs look much better. that isn't something a company normally would do right before they demolish them.

Fredo, you're right there. They won't remove anything until their bs lawsuit comes and goes AND our fine counter kicks in for real. The truth is we are gonna milk those static billboards for all the fines we can...Until Bain capital sells CCO to another company to finance the Romney presidential campaign that is.

Although I have another home on the web I thought it might be nice to lead by example a bit and put this blog system up to the test myself.

So far, so good... Funny how I build web tools for other people that are far better than the one's I have setup over on KFnet.
