A MNF Replacement
Gladiators: Are you ready?!

Since Monday Night Football is off the air 'til next season I've secretly been looking for an excuse to head to The Red Hot Monday nights. Well, I may now just have my excuse. From a bulletin on MySpace:
Subject: Mondays...
We open at 11am tomorrow, as usual. Happy Hour from 3-6, Industry Night from 6 to close...
and now with super-fantastic awesome GLADIATOR HOUR from 8-9!
Yea! We've already exchanged Heroes and Monday Night Football for American Gladiators with some friends here at our house. Maybe merging our love of a campy sports show with delicious hot dogs (and my pineapple flavored Jarritos, to be sure!) is just the ticket to start the week off right.
by AP on 1/21/2008 @ 5:33pm | Wow. I love Red Hot dogs. Put them together with something the caliber of American Gladiators and, well, I just don't know what do with myself.... talk about sensory overload! Add a stand-up Super Mario Bros. and the danger level soars further off the charts. |
by ensie on 1/21/2008 @ 5:56pm | So There. |
by ensie on 1/21/2008 @ 5:57pm | Can we still play "gay or not gay?" when the gladiators come on screen? |
by KevinFreitas on 1/21/2008 @ 6:42pm | Totally ensie. We're there. AP -- any love? |
by AP on 1/21/2008 @ 9:15pm | Dammit. I wish I would have been able. Errands post-work and now here we are. I'm still much looking forward to my first opportunity to get Fed up. It is now imminent. |
by ensie on 1/22/2008 @ 1:53pm | AP - I think you're just making excuses at this point. It's been, what? A year now? Come on! Show up! You've had ample opportunity. Am calling you out!
Was AWESOME. Place was overrun with Gladiator fans. Had to call Chris in to handle the hot dog load. Very fun to cheer en mass. Still can't believe douche bag guy finished The Eliminator so quickly! Was surprised lesbian football player did so poorly. Great night all the way around. Looking forward to next week! |
by AP on 1/22/2008 @ 2:18pm | Oh, I've made my excuses in the past and I'll just have to live with those. Not last night, however. I don't mess around when talking about bratwurst.
It has been dually noted: ball is now squarely in my court. |
by izenmania on 1/22/2008 @ 7:15pm | Oh. Dear. God. |
by KevinFreitas on 1/22/2008 @ 9:53pm | We definitely had a great time last night. Not to belittle the tastiness of Red Hot dogs but, the form of food and show paired well together. Who's in for next week? |
by izenmania on 1/23/2008 @ 8:15am | I love the Red Hot, but I'm not sure if I can handle an hour of AG... |
by KevinFreitas on 1/23/2008 @ 8:47am | You can do it Joe. We could make a drinking game out of every time the Hulk says "brother". Either that or just make up derogatory names for the competitors like ensie above. :) |
by ensie on 1/23/2008 @ 9:11am | Hey! "lesbian football player" is not derogatory! It's descriptive. As is "douche bag guy". |
by izenmania on 1/23/2008 @ 10:37am | isn't being Douche Bag Guy kind of the ultimate goal of the gladiators? I mean... nobody wants to be known as The Nice One. |
by ensie on 1/23/2008 @ 12:12pm | "Douch Bag Guy" was a competitor. Not a Gladiator. |
by KevinFreitas on 1/23/2008 @ 12:17pm | But he wants to become a Gladiator so he could've fit well. Sigh. I'm still impressed by that woman a couple weeks ago that bested most of the men's time in the eliminator. Of course, the guy that won this week shaved 30 seconds off still. I can't wait to see what happens next! ;) |
by izenmania on 1/23/2008 @ 12:19pm | I can. I can definitely wait. |
by AP on 1/23/2008 @ 3:49pm | Whether or not I am a fan of AG is irrelevant here. Enjoying a Murray Morgan while watching scores of AG fans in action promises to be stimulating one way or another. I will try to attend next week, if only for a short while. No excuses. |
by KevinFreitas on 1/28/2008 @ 4:36pm | I'm definitely headed in the Red Hot direction tonight no matter the weather. I shall have my bad TV and tasty, tasty hot dogs. Anyone else care to wear the Postal Service motto and bet at The Red Hot tonight? |
by ensie on 1/28/2008 @ 5:01pm | I will most definitely be there. Looking forward to meeting you AP! |
by KevinFreitas on 1/28/2008 @ 5:04pm | Though he's eluding to the fact that the weather might keep him away. No excuse, I say, c'mon down! Dare I offer a as-yet-un-met stranger a ride to the festivities? |
by izenmania on 1/28/2008 @ 5:13pm | For a switch... I am coming tonight because of the weather. I was supposed to go see Atonement with a friend, but she's trapped in Leavenworth.
So to hell with Oscar-nominated period epics. Bring on the hot dogs and gladiators! |
by KevinFreitas on 1/28/2008 @ 7:19pm | Aw crap! I squarely put the blame for this on George W. Bush.
Going to skip out due to this 10pm delayed playing time but, rest assured, we'll be down for some hot dog and gladiator action next week. |
by AP on 1/28/2008 @ 9:33pm | Next week. In. I love the daring ride offer to (sorta) stranger guy from down the street! Solid effort and I would have accepted. Family dinner plans have kept me away until now. Just when you think Kevin has outdone himself with new search functionality, he offers you a ride to everybody's favorite hot dog stand!
The question remains: did ensie go it alone? |
by KevinFreitas on 1/28/2008 @ 11:27pm | Nope. She came out to get dinner with us Freitai. See u next week everybody! |
by izenmania on 1/29/2008 @ 12:55am | No, izenmania went it alone. Had a good time hangin' with Chris and the other non-punkass customers. Unlike all you punkasses. We watched baseball. Yes, in January. |
by beerandhotdogs on 1/29/2008 @ 9:10am | G-Dub is responsible! I arrived to fill-in for a sick Red Hot Beertender, only to discover my beloved Gladiators had been jousted off their timeslot to the 10 o'clock slot. Total Bummer. It did make for quite the loud end to the night. To make up for the bumble, our Thursday 8 o'clock Movie this week will be the Gladiatoresque "Running Man". I will not deprive Tacoma of it's regular dosage of man-on-man futuristic barbarism action, especially that of the Ahnold variety...
See you all when the Gladiators return to their normal ass-kicking timeslot of hilarity. C@TRH |
by AP on 2/4/2008 @ 8:57am | So tonight at Red Hot? Survey says? |
by ensie on 2/4/2008 @ 9:54am | In for sure. No excuses. No W to bump the time slot. |
by ensie on 2/4/2008 @ 9:54am | No snow to keep you away AP! |
by izenmania on 2/4/2008 @ 10:00am | Not for me. I'm all about the Stone Brew Night on Wednesday. |
by AP on 2/4/2008 @ 10:34am | I'll be there just before 8. I'd offer you a ride Kevin, but I won't be able to stay very long. |
by AP on 2/4/2008 @ 3:43pm | So Kevin is out this week? Or just very busy on a Monday? |
by KevinFreitas on 2/4/2008 @ 3:45pm | We'll be there, yes. Trying to save some pennies this month so I won't be diving into my usual nachos tho. Probably wise for my waistline that I stick to a dog and a Jaritos, too. ;) |
by KevinFreitas on 2/5/2008 @ 7:07am | Good show last night. Dogs were also right on. And it was great to finally meet you, AP! Glad you could get out a bit and enjoy. |
by AP on 2/5/2008 @ 11:46am | Yes indeed. Great time and great company. That was truly my first online meetup type thing and it has left me feeling much better about the world. |
by KevinFreitas on 2/11/2008 @ 5:18pm | Any takers tonight? I'll definitely be there about 7:45pm. It's the other half of the semi finals. Go... team! Er something. |
by ensie on 2/11/2008 @ 6:56pm | I will, of course, be there. Frinklin has finally been freed from the bonds of theatre slavery and will also be attending. |

Although I have another home on the web I thought it might be nice to lead by example a bit and put this blog system up to the test myself.
So far, so good... Funny how I build web tools for other people that are far better than the one's I have setup over on KFnet.
