New Brickier Look for Tacoma Security Building

Make sure you refer to it as the Provident tho

Ongoing improvements to the Tacoma Security (Provident) Building have helped make the ground level more inviting and added a touch of class to the turn of the 20th Century structure. The Provident Building, as it will again be known, now also matches much of the brick thing our City has going on with a paint job taking it from battleship gray to warm, dark brick. I'd complain that they should've just sand-blasted the paint right off to reveal the real brick but it's a nice compromise and the new color doesn't look bad at all. Frankly, if I didn't seem them painting it, I wouldn't have noticed since it fits in so well.

They even painted on some windows on the sides of the building.

on 7/14/2008 @ 9:42am		The paint looks better but I'm wondering about the ground floor "remodel" (perhaps several years old). It looks oddly out of character for this rather spectacular old structure.

on 7/14/2008 @ 10:38am		That is definitely a welcome and much-needed facelift. I'll bet they ran into problems with removing the existing paint (either too expensive, or too difficult/time consuming to remove the paint from the porous brick). Regardless, I'm glad to see this end of town getting some more love.

on 7/17/2008 @ 7:32am		Here's the near finished Provident Building. They even went so far as to mimic the windows from Pacific Ave side of the building on the otherwise blank north and south walls.

Yes, and hopefully some of the raw concrete look.

Can't wait till the South Park Parking Plaza is completed.
