New Downtown Cafes Open

With the dawn of November comes the opening of two new cafes in downtown Tacoma. Both are in what I would call tough spots but here's to them finding a niche and sticking with us for a long time to come.

Sundance Cafe
950 Broadway (in the Rhodes Building just down from LeRoy's)
M-F 7am-4pm

Anthem Cafe (formerly Clancy's Coffee)
1911 Pacific Ave. (next to the WSHM fence and gift shop)
M-F 9am-ish-5pm (new hours coming soon, along with beer and wine)

Good thing there are plenty of talented illustrators and artists in town who can drop their business cards off to offer up their visual design and branding help! It'd actually be cool if CLAW had a freelance outreach initiative to help connect members with local businesses in need of their talents.

Good luck to them!

How many businesses have been in the Anthem spot?

At least three that I can rattle off straight away: Cascade Bagel (yum!), Clancy's, and now Anthem. Not sure what it was before Cascade Bagel but it's a tough physical location. No street parking on that side and basically completely isolated by the gulf that is Pac. Ave. I suppose the WSHM fence may help though since it helps drive so many people past the History Museum's gift shop. :S

In all seriousness, once they get their permit for beer and wine and if they get some decent acts or events the place might make a go of it.

I always thought they should have put very small restaurants along Pacific south of the TAM on the courthouse property street side. Like roll up doors on tiny walk up joints. I bet that would get people to that side of the street!

About

Although I have another home on the web I thought it might be nice to lead by example a bit and put this blog system up to the test myself.

So far, so good... Funny how I build web tools for other people that are far better than the one's I have setup over on KFnet.
