SiteCrafting Puts Offer on New HQ

This news on a certain local web application tech company just came through via Twitter:

RT @brainfroth Just put in our offer on #Tacoma HQ for @SiteCrafting - more news on a city to the North coming soon!

I'm proud to be part of such a great company and that we're not pulling a Russell on Tacoma as we grow.

We want details and we want them now.

by KevinFreitas on 1/5/2010 @ 3:41pm
It's neither the Elks nor the Luzon. :)

by Erik on 1/5/2010 @ 4:48pm
Very cool. I hope it is in the downtown grid!

by thriceallamerican on 1/5/2010 @ 5:04pm
Expedia office? (Guessing is fun!)

by Jake on 1/5/2010 @ 5:12pm
Ledger Building (7th & St Helens)?

by KevinFreitas on 1/5/2010 @ 5:19pm
@Jake: Good guess (but no) 'cause that was our first office here in Tacoma. Second was just off Fireman's Park, and our current space is at 28th and Pacific.

1) What do these guys do?

and

2) One of the floors in Pac Plaza

by NineInchNachos on 1/5/2010 @ 5:51pm
Right on. Though being in charge of a building can be a drain at times.

by KevinFreitas on 1/5/2010 @ 6:26pm
@NIN: Thanks I won't be in charge. :D

@Thorax: What do who's guys do -- SiteCrafting?

by L.S.Erhardt on 1/5/2010 @ 6:31pm
yup!

Based on their name, I'd guess web design. I tried looking at their twitter thing, but it confused me.

by Crenshaw Sepulveda on 1/5/2010 @ 6:32pm
Is it a rental or a purchase? That would be enough for me to suss it out.

by Erik on 1/5/2010 @ 6:43pm
Since Kevin has made a specific blog post about his move, it must be a (relatively) spectacular building.

A bit late to lease out the Luzon though I guess.

by KevinFreitas on 1/5/2010 @ 6:48pm
@Thorax: We build and design custom websites and web applications. From simple, brochure-like sites to fully self-content managed sites and even internal business and enterprise systems -- all web-based. Fun stuff! It's a different challenge with every client and/or project. www.sitecrafting.com/

@Crenshaw: Purchase (finally!)

by NineInchNachos on 1/5/2010 @ 7:30pm
are you buying your current digs?

by Crenshaw Sepulveda on 1/5/2010 @ 7:37pm
I would imagine they are looking at a new space or perhaps buying more in their current space. I'm guessing a new location, but probably not an entire building.

by KevinFreitas on 1/5/2010 @ 7:45pm
Our current digs are an option potentially. Many options still potentially on the table since all we have out at this point is an offer.

Sorry if this is a bit of a tease but we're very excited and hope to be able to let loose more details soon!

by Crenshaw Sepulveda on 1/5/2010 @ 8:01pm
I think we can probably rule out the Fight Club building, even with the historical importance of the building.

by KevinFreitas on 1/5/2010 @ 8:04pm
Hahaha! I can, with great authority, say that my post about that place was, in no way, meant as foreshadowing as to where we aim to purchase. :D

by Erik on 1/5/2010 @ 9:10pm
I would imagine they are looking at a new space or perhaps buying more in their current space.

Hard to believe Kevin would make a separate post about his company simply buying the building that they are in. Yet one never knows. The anticipation!

I'm certain there are quite a few empty office condos around downtown that are seriously looking for an owner and probably can be had at a good price. Some may be in foreclosure or bank owned at this point. I'm not sure how much space SiteCrafting has now but I suspect they are looking for more square footage if they are in a growth spurt and probably a bit more for future expansion. Could be something on Broadway between 9th and 7th. Some interesting spaces available there.

by KevinFreitas on 1/6/2010 @ 6:41am
We have about 3500 sq ft of space right now at our Tacoma location (not sure about Spokane) and have been constantly and thoughtfully growing since when I started in Aug. of 2005 and was the 7th employee. We're now up to 24.

by NineInchNachos on 1/6/2010 @ 8:28am
Buy the Mecca! We could be web design firm neighbors! An International Web Design District! Do it! Do it NOW!!!

by Crenshaw Sepulveda on 1/6/2010 @ 8:36am
The IWDD, I like the sound of that, NIN.

by Altered Chords on 1/6/2010 @ 9:14am
Nacho's - I would have thought you no longer hung out at the Mecca since it's remodel.

by Nick on 1/6/2010 @ 10:28am
Sadly, I believe one of the requirements for establishing a formal IWDD would have required we threaten to leave Tacoma first. Since the cat is out of the bag on that one (read: we aren't), I don't see much chance of the city formally recognizing it.

Too bad too, I hear those International Districts come with a pretty hefty bag-o-cash.

On the plus side, it has been getting pretty lonely down here around S 28th. Those tumbleweeds can only contribute so much to a conversation...

by izenmania on 1/6/2010 @ 10:56am
Yeah, now that the police have stopped getting called to McCabe's, the neighborhood is just boring.

by thriceallamerican on 1/6/2010 @ 11:15am
Wait, you're buying McCabe's? A country-and-western-themed web development company would be awesome!

by zastica on 1/6/2010 @ 11:44am
Kevin has already put dibs on the mechanical bull as his new desk. (That is, *if* we moved to McCabe's, he's have the bull.)

by intacoma on 1/6/2010 @ 12:14pm
It may or may not be a failed condo project with an amazing view

by L.S.Erhardt on 1/6/2010 @ 1:13pm
^^ That's vague. Midtown Lofts? The Esplanade? The Mecca? Chelsea Heights? 27th Street Station? The Walker? Bayview?
...actually, if you could finish the Midtown Lofts (I hear they're 80% complete), that'd be a sick location with a good view.

Also... anyone else hear the commercials on the radio where Rent A Center is now offering payday loans of up to $1700? They're calling themselves "Rent A Center Financial Services".

So, why doesn't SiteCrafting give Fredo a $20 loan to spend at the Olympics in Vancouver? The company can then start calling themselves "SiteCrafting and International Financial Services Corp". You could then take advantage of the dumptruck full of money that's sitting in the parking garage of City Hall.

That or make a "campaign contribution" to City Council and casually mention how much more "contributions" there could be if the city happened to have a Computer and Internet Services District in downtown with special tax rates...

Here's the latest via Twitter:

Counter offer signed and delivered - let's see what's next on the @SiteCrafting building quest.

Another update from @BrainFroth:

Approaching the moment when we can say "under contract". All it will take is my initials

by Erik on 1/15/2010 @ 1:09pm
The anticipation! The expectations!

About

Although I have another home on the web I thought it might be nice to lead by example a bit and put this blog system up to the test myself.

So far, so good... Funny how I build web tools for other people that are far better than the one's I have setup over on KFnet.
