KFnet in T-Town

A commercial building at the corner of South Tacoma Way and 56th St. is getting a new awning. A new look over at Neighborhood Market on 6th Ave. certainly helped that corner clean up a bit so I hope the same is true for this small project there in South Tacoma. Just a block off this intersection are some really charming old buildings and a pretty walkable streetscape. It's a shame there isn't more residential nearby to urge more walk-in shops, restaurants, and groceries.

Will this stip remain a vehicle thoroughfare or will a 25 MPH speed limit and some facade changes bring people back?

by fredo on 7/29/2008 @ 1:39pm	South Tacoma Way is going to be one difficult-to-redevelop strip. It's basically old Hiway 99 with miles and miles of basically squalid development. It doesn't look appreciably better than when I moved here 30 years ago. It certainly will take a visionary team with some cash. The basic problem from my view is that it's too car-centric and has way too much asphalt. More landscaping would be an improvement.
