On a Summer Hat Hunt

Support your local bald and beautiful

Help me find a hat, Tacoma!

It burns -- it really, really, burns. After lunch outside Thursday then Frost Park Friday my head just can't take it anymore. Summer is officially here and I find myself lacking in head cover. Through the darker months my noggin is happily covered with a Scottish looking piece made from wool that's just too warm for when the Sun comes out to stay. I'm also not a big fan of baseball caps.

So what kind of hat would you suggest and where might I get one (locally if possible)? Descriptions help but photos are better. Thanks for the assist! Once my head is covered anew I'll make sure to post pics.

I am getting a hat today! At a Seattle hat shop.

KF-I think the hat for you is a woven plantation style hat with a broad brim. I think you're a 6 7/8.

Gilligan Hat!

My favorite hat shop happens to be in Seattle: Bernie Utz Hats, at 310 Union between Third and Fourth. I've bought two very high-quality hats there and will probably buy more over the years.

They have lots of different styles, something for everyone and every head. I wish there were a good hat shop in town, but I'm not aware of one.

Apparently, this can be yours for $129.95 here. (Also available in black).

As a fellow bald man I totally feel your red skinned dome pain.

I got a cool hat a UrbanXChange just recently. They may have something in there for you. You never know what will turn up there.

I say the man makes the style. Check out the current wig options. Mix and match yo style and show the world what the new international male is all about.

I actually have a few you could use......you don't have anything against baby arms do you?

by izenmania on 6/21/2008 @ 1:15pm
Just back from Byrnie Utz myself with a fine new head-casing.

I'm also not a big fan of baseball caps.

So, have you always hated America, or is this a recent development?

by Brooks on 6/21/2008 @ 5:17pm
Question for those who've been to Byrnie Utz, when you were there did you happen to spot any Pork Pie hats?

by izenmania on 6/21/2008 @ 5:52pm
I unfortunately did not investigate... I went in knowing exactly what kind of hat I wanted. But they have many many hats, so it wouldn't stun me.

I second the Mr. Mac.

@Brooks ...

Yes, a couple of months ago, I was there, and they did have pork pie hats!

@scout: If it's anything like that necklace sweet pea wore at the recent DyDD bout them I think I'll have to pass. ;) Maybe for the next baby shower I attend however...

I'm actually kinda' digging on the Gilligan hat or that jungle safari hunter one. So aside from UrbanXchange are there any good places in Tacoma to browse for hats? I'm not opposed to a trip to Seattle (especially given that Utz is just blocks off the 594 bus) but I'd like to get one here if possible.

Thanks all!

Kevin - I'm sure your wife will agree that almost anything will look groovy on your dashing dome!

I bet you could rock the straw fedora look. You might enquire at Red Line on 6th or Rocky & Coco's downtown, to see if they've got that sort of thing (or can order one in), or you can hazard a trip to the mall and check and see if Zumiez or Pacific whatever whatever the shop's name is carries the fedoras, to try 'em on. Alternately, a trip to REI could net some good hat shopping...

Although I have another home on the web I thought it might be nice to lead by example a bit and put this blog system up to the test myself.

So far, so good... Funny how I build web tools for other people that are far better than the one's I have setup over on KFnet.
