Rhymes with Tacoma
So, the other day I heard a song on the radio that, much to my surprise, mentioned Tacoma among a list of other cities. That got me wondering what other lyrics might include the word "Tacoma" that could randomly come up on any popular radio station the US over. So, I did a search and found the following tracks/artists that are at least somewhat popular (or were at one time):
- Rock'n Me, Steve Miller Band
- "I went from Phoenix, Arizona
All the way to Tacoma..."
- My Hooptie and Jump On It, Sir Mix-A-Lot (no real rhyming going on here but they're mentions nonetheless)
- "Rollin' in Tacoma, I could get burned
(Sound of automatic gunfire) Betta make a u-turn..."
- "What's up Tacoma, what's up (x2)
Tacoma jump on it, jump on it, jump on it..."
- I Hate the Beach Boys, The Bobs
- "Please keep me free from melanoma (I'm so tired of sunshine)
I'll move to Tacoma (Can't wait for the nighttime)..."
After a chat with Izenmania I'm sure there are more but I'm aiming for wide exposure here. Thinking big for our little City of Destiny here.
What else rhymes with "Tacoma"? Let's help musicians going forward easily include us in their songs. I already thought of "aroma" and "glaucoma" but I'd like to go the more positive (or at least innocuous/neutral) route with these if we can. But still, any lyrical attention is good attention!

90% of those are bad things. "Tacoma Aroma" is not good, but I'll take that any day over the Tacoma Carcinoma, or Tacoma Mesothelioma, or Tacoma Lymphoma or any other cancer. Seriously. Do we really want to give our neighbors in the 206 and 425 more material to bitch-slap us with?
Although, I also spy an interesting possible PR campaign: "Tacoma, the Sonoma of the Northwest."
...we'd just need a few more wineries and about 190 more days of sun per year.

|I like that diploma rhymes with Tacoma and I bet all our local colleges do too. Maybe we can focus on being the education city. That sounds much better than the cancer city.

|We got UPS, UWT and sorta PLU on the 4 year front, and TCC on the community college front. What about another one, something more tech-heavy?
I'd love to see the Tacoma Institute of Robotics. Seen the crazy robots stuff they have in Tokyo? We need that stuff here. Someone's gotta do it, so we may as well be the ones.

|KFNet--Since the first rhyme you listed was actually with ARIZONA, that seemed like a pretty likely place to start... with a few more palatable results from your Rhyme Zone!
I like all the city names.... but my fave is Persona.
"The Persona of Tacoma."
Sounds like a good starting place for a community art project, no?

|@Emilie: Could be a great new tourism campaign. Have 3 other pop places listed with an illustration of what their known for and a 4th panel for Tacoma and what we're famous for. Hmm... It'd be best if we can pick places that have stuff we have then the panel for Tacoma can have all the others in one place.|

|I actually ran this search last week. The only reason anyone still remembers "Tacoma Aroma" is because of the rhyme. But perhaps that's preferable to the melanoma/Tacoma quip from those goofy Bobs.|

|And speaking of tourism campaigns...
Well, we're listening.
Although I have another home on the web I thought it might be nice to lead by example a bit and put this blog system up to the test myself.
So far, so good... Funny how I build web tools for other people that are far better than the one's I have setup over on KFnet.
