McMenamin's Elks Update
From Amocat Cafe on Facebook:
McMenamin sighting at Amocat! One of the McMenamin brothers and the Elks Lodge project manager was just in. They said permits were just issued but they can't start work until later this year due to the city ripping up the road in front of their building.
Excited though I may be I'll still reserve my true glee for the day crews start physical work on the old, abandoned Elks building. But, hey, permits are something!
LeMay Museum Opens Saturday
Rejoice at the progress this could mean for our Tacoma or curse the nightmare of traffic (fitting, seeing that it's a car museum) that could be upon the area this weekend. Whatever the case, the huge new museum is opening and should bring in droves of even people like me who aren't particular fans of cars and prefer to see them in a museum. ;)
I recommend parking near the Theater District (up on Broadway or by Old City Hall may be best) and taking the Link to the festivities or enjoy a long walk along the Thea Foss then up "D" Street.
Cool Events Coming Up (yeah, I still say "cool")
ReCYCLE the Bike Night - Tonight, 6pm @ The Red Hot
Political Cartoonist Ted Rall - Monday, 7pm @ King's Books (attention CLAW types!)

LeMay may have enough mojo to have a more positive effect on Tacoma than the Tacoma Dome does. We will see.

Hehe, cool is cool.
@Erik: I think it will. If I use myself as an example (you can extrapolate to the entire population from there) I'll visit LeMay even though I don't like cars (they're pretty though) while I like music but have never been to a concert at the Tacoma Dome.

The Tacoma Dome was created for Rammstein, they just didn't know it yet back in '83...

The problem with Tacoma Dome events is that people go there and are surrounded by a huge parking lot moat, interact little with the city and then drive home for the most part.
Plus, the Dome was created by razing a whole neighborhood killing off life in a whole area. Events at LeMay could last a couple of days or more forcing visitors to have a greater rate of interaction with the city. Also, I predict LeMay will have far more beneficial effect on the city than any single museum in Tacoma.
LeMay, for better or worse, seems to be focusing on what visitors really want rather than what a board of directors believes they should want.
Saturday is going to be interesting.

And don't forget the www.tacomazombpocalypse.com/ right next door in September...
Although I have another home on the web I thought it might be nice to lead by example a bit and put this blog system up to the test myself.
So far, so good... Funny how I build web tools for other people that are far better than the one's I have setup over on KFnet.
