Tacoma Tip #8 - Sidewalk Fertilization

Help keep Tacoma classy and kindly keep pet poo off the sidewalk.

Epidemic this is not but it says something about a town or even just a neighborhood to see decomposing dog trailings on the sidewalk. Though the leash and scoop method is what most folks practice an errant leaving or two in a grassy pasture seems more in line with the natural order of things than on a sidewalk that certainly needs no such fertilization.

I imagine from time to time you might forget your plastic baggies or not be near one of those handy little dispensers or a stray who doesn't know the laws might be the culprit. Dog owners of Tacoma: unite! You too can help poo it forward and, if you see rouge doggy doo while you're out with your pup, bag it even if it's not yours. Tacoman's and visitors alike walking about will thank you!

Tacoma Tip is a weekly series for sharing the little tidbits that make living life here, for old timer's and newcomers alike, a little smoother. Have any tips you want shared? Email me!

What kind of animal would do that on a public sidewalk

Yeah, kinda' an icky one but a necessary one to help keep things presentable here. Fortunately I've not personally stepped in any myself but I've come close on more than one occasion.

I have a problem neighbor who has a pitbull. He takes it over to the front of my house and lets his dog 5hit in the front also sometimes on the sidewalk as well.I am going to get this to solve the problem of nuisance dogs.I've used barberry thorns and it's somewhat effective on the very front.

JHF shoot that bad boy with a bb gun. It won't reduce the dog poop problem but will probably make you feel better

I'd like to shoot those dogs of my other neighbors however that would start a feud and even police involvement (I would likely be arrested for shooting a dog -animal cruelty). The owner would confront me too and likely there would be a confrontation.
Besides they are townhouse renters and I am a homeowner (harder for me to move).
I think that annoying (frightening) the crap out of nuisance animals covertly is a better tactic. So when the pit bull owner walks with his dog and comes in front of my house it will disobey the owner and not want to come close to my yard.It would be like having a loud audible siren blowing in someones ears except that the devices use frequency sweeping powerful ultrasonic sounds mostly annoying to dogs, stray cats, raccoons etc and cause them to quickly flee the area.In that frequency range the dog owner would likely hear the sound of the device however it's close to the outer range of human hearing so that it would only likely be noticeable to him.He likely won't be walking his dog in front of my house in the future to let his dog poop in front of my house.

Just get a wolverine and train it to crave pitbull blood.

Then let nature take it's course.

Case in point just across the street from City Hall:

(fortunately not my smear)

Punishment should be a swift, humiliating public caning.

Although I have another home on the web I thought it might be nice to lead by example a bit and put this blog system up to the test myself.

So far, so good... Funny how I build web tools for other people that are far better than the one's I have setup over on KFnet.
