TDI-Like Downtown Mini Photo Safari

My hat's off to the TDI for their numerous photo safari's! As a new downtown resident walking around here serendipitously yields lots of random bits I'm also keen to share but don't necessarily individually merit an entire blog post. So, again taking the TDI's cue, here are a few bits from my wanders the last couple days:

I sure hope this little mini digital billboard that flashed "Tacoma Urine" in the window of a Commerce Street gallery is kidding.

The beautiful old Northern Pacific Railroad building at dawn.

I never realized that Learning Sprout sign has that cute vertical part shooting skyward!

It's beginning to look a lot like...

I just thought this lighting was kinda epic.

Was hoping the urine bottles were seen in the front window of a pot dispensary.

I love the old Christmas decorations. The remind me of when my brother & I were kids and would be dragged to Schoenfeld's for the annual furniture shopping trip to spruce up before the holidays. We'd hang out the windows from the upper floors and watch the interesting locals (really, drunks/hookers/druggies I came to find out years later) toddle from bar to bar along Pacific, all aglow in the warm light of the glittery shooting stars and holiday bells.

And I don't get the pee bottles. It is like "Urine Tacoma?"

yeah urine. can you believe they want to slash the budget for the arts?

So is it like some sort of interactive project? Like maybe a participation event that the homeless can contribute to? Or, was it a means of sampling and profiling and thereby targeting the dispensary raid yesterday?

Or, it is just one of those things called art but really you just shake your head and go, "huh?"

I'll try to snag video of it on my way home tonight. Pretty funky little window exhibit.

Awesome work!

You're going to take a video of bio-bots in a window? That'll be like art within art, all Warhol-esque. Post it when you're done, will ya!?

And agreed with Erik, I love these little snapshots of random T-Town life.

Let's hope no little old ladies or pregnant mothers-to-be get pepper-sprayed this time.

Here, ladies and gentlemen, is a video of that "Urine Tacoma" piece photographed above:

Last year Mayor Strickland declared "shift happens"

This year she could declare "urine tacoma"

About

Although I have another home on the web I thought it might be nice to lead by example a bit and put this blog system up to the test myself.

So far, so good... Funny how I build web tools for other people that are far better than the one's I have setup over on KFnet.
