|In March, 1994 two local artists representing Tacoma Third Thursday Artwalk asked me to produce their event guide.
From concept and original artwork through lithographic printing, for over two years each monthly project challenged me as the sole designer and printer.

Each of the three images above is the front of a three panel, folded 8.5" x 11" 60# text brochure.
The typesetting was done on a Power Mac computer. The type choice and layout was decided lastly and is the only element I produced by computer.
The black line drawing for each image was produced with square tip and pointed tip felt markers applied to household paper towels.
The first item, 4.18.96 brochure, is composed of two separate drawings---black line work and background color---produced by using felt markers and then a photocopier to distress the background image.
The second item, July 18 brochure, lavender gray speckles were produced by using a 2" wide paint brush loaded with thinned paint and flicked at a vertical standing sheet of thick paper. The tint background behind the speckles was produced with a photographic image of Earth as seen from space. The three separate elements (line drawing, speckles, tint) were sized by using a photocopy machine. The presswork involved printing each of the three ink colors individually on a Multigraphics 1250 litho press.
On the third item, the harp festival brochure, the two-color background was produced by multiple photocopying a photograph of a wood plank in order to get a flat distressed image. The presswork started by printing the black ink first and after it dried I fitted the other two colors to the harp. This was accomplished by using a Multigraphics 1250 litho press equipped with a second color printing unit so that two colors may be printed simultaneously.
This is my real-time novel, "Idealism in Tacoma," which will attempt to sort out the virtual new order I discovered in local blogs and in local 'hoods. I welcome you to join me as I press on in search of answers to the ongoing question: "Is it new?"
NEW! for 2011:
"QUANTUM FOAM," the second real-time novel by Mofo from the Hood, is happening now!
"For whatever mysterious reason, I must act beyond the role of spectator. Something beyond a portable history must be explored.
Therefore in order for me to define the concepts and categories of realities beyond the realm of my real-time novel "Idealism in Tacoma," a wholly other discourse must take form.
Ladies and whatever, let us go forth into the unknown dimension of imagination. I hereby offer you my all new materialist inspired "out of nothing" real-time novel: 'QUANTUM FOAM'."

"The Mofo News Network" aka MNN is one of the world's most trusted sources of news and entertainment--MFTH, Founder*
"Sunday Scriber" series. 36 episodes from May 2008 to July 2011. Perpetual status. A practical look at why survival and freedom depends on knowing what is good, acceptable, and perfect.
*MFTH was born and raised in Tacoma, Washington USA. As a lifelong resident, uninspired by money, power, or fame, he eventually resorted to reading internet blogs, sometimes at the public library. In May, 2008, during the Great Recession, he started "Mofo from the Hood's Blog" on FeedTacoma.com, because it was free. If this blog ever helps him to attain money, power, and fame, he will probably stay in Tacoma.
