With the Sounder construction I haven't been driving past this corner for a while. While filling up the tank I noticed something shiny across the street:

|Not a fan of the cornicing on the corner section–I think it makes it look too much like new construction going for a classic look–but overall they've done a nice job.
Anyone know if the awesome Foremost lettering will be reattached to the building?

|... also, I'll try and get some higher-res images online and link to them.|

|should have kept the art-deco look, but if it attracts some new private employers to the neighborhood it will be considered a good thing.|

The lettering is up on the Pacific Ave. side.

|Yeah, I should mention this is from across 25th (while I was at the elephant car wash). Glad to hear the lettering is still there, wish I had gotten a better view of the pacific side.|

|Not too shabby... though I agree with Fredo about the look. I would have preferred to keep the Art Deco awesomeness.|

|If only they could improve the other half of that block too. Where Neener's used to be.|

|The new look actually reminds me of the redevelopment of Emeryville, CA (near where I grew up). It was more or less a warehouse district next to Berkeley and across the freeway from Oakland. In the span of about 10 years, most of the warehouses were converted into class-A office space and is now home to the likes of Pixar (among some others that I can't recall).|

|I too was horrified by the crown molding, but whatever.|

|I like it! Good to hear the foremost sign returned too!|

|Somehow going to a Social Security hearing in a building named "foremost" seems ominous.|

|good call joel.
well a lot of the claimants from every quart r are probably going to milk the system from every teat possible. but then for people who know how it's like buttah. Only udder conservatives like I scream.

|I really like it, although the cornice-on-the-corner thing is like a guy who wears his Polo shirt with the collar up - pretentious. Keep it simple. The white accents make it pop but are won't look so good if they're not kept clean.
@ last fredo - inventive, but please!!

|Awesome upgrades to the building!
This part of town needs all the help it can get.
Now only 200 more massive brick buildings to renovate in downtown Tacoma.

|I am not 100% happy that they made such drastic changes to the face of the building... but I am glad they did such a nice job and I am most happy that they reinstalled the Foremost Dairy sign to the front of the building! Well done and a big Thank You to whomever made that decision!|

|Not a fan of the old school Lego blue tinted windows myself but, ditto on the classic Foremost sign. That looks great and it's nice to have this corner cleaned up a bit. Be interested to see what kind of tenants move in there. Now if we could just turn the Jack 'n The Box across the street into a Burgerville...|

|I think the Neeners building is for sale. Whoever buys it will need to rennovate it. The inside of it is a disaster.|
I'm just a computer geek that has fallen in love with Tacoma.
So, what's almost as fun as sitting in front of a computer all day? Talking about the growth and development of a new Tacoma, duh!
