South Park Plaza Update

The Russians have graduated, from dolls to cranes!

Passing through I noticed all of Pacific was closed in front of South Park Plaza yesterday. It looked like they were assembling a crane with, yes, two other smaller cranes. It hadn't occurred to me before, but it seems there are practical uses to the Russian doll concept!

The real question is, do the smaller cranes fit inside the larger one?

Yeah, I tried driving through there late last night and the whole area was shut down.

Nice to see work going forward on the South Park Plaza Parking Garage. It is quite a project.

Tried to drive thru downtown Sunday noon-ish. Crane assembly seems to have moved along from posted pics. I'm used to seeing cranes aready assembled but they look freakishly huge as they are being put together at street level.

At least they are doing it on the weekend.

With all of the slowdown in construction in Tacoma, this is going forward.

An extra floor of parking and two floors of office space plus, they will pull the front of the retail to the street and hopefully blast out the walkway where 12th is, remove the entombed escalator otherwise known as the doomed "moving sidewalk."

Yes, it seems that even with the condo "boom" coming to a close, other areas/industries are continuing the new construction momentum that has been evident in our beloved city over the past decade or so.

With this, the Broadway LID, hopefully a new Russell HQ, maybe some sort of LINK extension (and anything else I'm forgetting), it's refreshing to see development outside the scope of condos. If Tacoma is to succeed at continued growth, we're going to need to diversify beyond just condos downtown.

We absolutely need to diversify... condos are a very narrow market, and in light of the housing/mortgage crapshoot these days, a shaky investment.
Let's get some more infrastructure the general public can use... and streetcars too

I'm just a computer geek that has fallen in love with Tacoma.

So, what's almost as fun as sitting in front of a computer all day? Talking about the growth and development of a new Tacoma, duh!
