by NineInchNachos on 5/6/2009 @ 10:40am | Ian Demsky is doing a good job: IMAGINE TACOMA (CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS) "Everything was going swimmingly at the Council of the Whole meeting at Tacoma City Hall Tuesday afternoon until the discussion turned to the subject of upcoming improvements to the Council Chambers. The $30,000 job will move the podium from Siberia at the left side of the room to directly in front of the mayor. A new "pony wall" with three gates will divide the public from the electeds (and staff). The City Manager and City Attorney's seats will move onto an extended platform to the Council's right (from their perspective, the left from the audience's). And the council dais will be resurfaced with new plastic laminate." blogs.thenewstribune.com/politics/2009/0... |
by morgan on 5/6/2009 @ 11:47am | Good to see Ian report on the recent city council meeting. That should free up exit133 to cover other things. |
by Erik on 5/6/2009 @ 11:55am | What I am wondering is whether the proposed renovations to City Hall Chambers will effect the professional commentors and RR coverage. |
by NineInchNachos on 5/6/2009 @ 12:28pm | I believe this would be an improvement for audience participation on TV Tacoma, when citizen forum speakers get up and talk instead a blank carpeted wall in the back ground you'd see the chambers audience.... a wonderful opportunity for holding up "FAIL" signs

by NineInchNachos on 6/3/2009 @ 3:55pm | if you think you were depressed after Neko Case concert... if you think you were depressed after Dan Voelpel announced he's leaving the TNT, dig this: I just was informed that Palin Tacomic purchaser IAN DEMSKY will be leaving the TNT end of June. He's been the coolest temporary city council the traveller reporter ever employed at the TNT. I havent been this bummed out since the lovely Niki Sullivan abandoned TNTship. reminds me of the title of the debut album by THE WALKMEN: Everyone who Pretended to Like Me Is Gone www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZEQr55nXvA |
![]() by Matt Driscoll on 6/3/2009 @ 5:04pm | Damn. That's a bummer, indeed. I also miss Hagey. |
by Dave_L on 6/3/2009 @ 5:39pm | I apologize for saying this, RR, but sometimes I think we were separated at birth.
It's one blow after another. I'd better go listen to some more music to pick me up. The vulture wheels and dives / Something on the thermals yanked his chain / He smelled your boring apex / rotting on the train tracks / He laughed under his breath / because you thought that you could outrun sorrow / Take your own advice / This thundering and lightning gets you rain / You run an airtight mission / a Cousteau expedition/ to find a diamond at the bottom of the drain |
by NineInchNachos on 6/26/2009 @ 10:52am | this is a true loss for the citizens of Tacoma... "Even in the few years that I've been here, the TNT has undergone some profound changes. Many of the veteran reporters and editors who were here when I started are no longer at the paper -- or in journalism at all. This means that you, the citizen, will have to take up some of that slack. More weight rests on your shoulders when it comes to keeping track of how your government(s) really works and holding officials accountable. It also means that you're going to have to hold your hometown newspaper more accountable. Fewer and fewer reporters are being asked to generate more and more stories per week (not to mention extras like blog posts). That means the lowest hanging fruit often gets picked first -- stories that are complex or that require a lot of patient digging necessarily become increasingly hard to do." blogs.thenewstribune.com/politics/2009/0... see also: "What does this mean for the "home gamers" who follow the action on TV Tacoma or seek to petition the council in person? To me, it says they might want to get involved in the process at an earlier stage -- at the subcommittee level, where nascent legislation is hammered out. (This also suggests that journalists covering the city have to jump on topics early in the process, too.) Outsiders may not realize this, but the Committee of the Whole meetings is where a lot of the action and debate happens. Those meetings aren't televised and they're usually standing room only, but audio recordings go up on line later in the week." blogs.thenewstribune.com/politics/2009/0... |
