Living and Working Virtually with Microsoft SongSmith!

second attempt after Archive.org messed up

If I was forced at gunpoint to describe microsoft songsmith I would say it was like a downloadable karaoke machine but filled up with lame melodies nobody has ever heard and you make up your own words to the songs. The trial software gives you six hours of fully functional songsmithing. You can listen below to my own handiwork. PLease give Microsoft Songsmith a try yourself.

To download MP3 versions of my own singing, check out my new Internet Archive RR Anderson Sings! page.

They sound like classic songs. Tacoma is waiting to "learn to draw" with bated breath.

Did I hear Smashing Pumpkins in there?

Despite all your rage, you are still just a rat in a cage.

If RR singing is what is needed to get Tacoma out of its slump and perpetual angst, (www.exit133.com/5065/ay-blue-collar-grit) then I say sing, RR sing. Sing for a better Tacoma.

I liken the experience of hearning this to having concentrated hydrochloric acid poured directly into my auditory canal.

by droid116 on 2/9/2009 @ 6:50am
That was so Dylan. I would also like to hear the Post Office and Grocery Store songs.

as marumaruyopparai likened my singing (which I think of as 'my truth') to having concentrated hydrochloric acid poured into his ear, several thoughts flashed across my mind. Firstly Martin Luther king, then Gandhi... Nelson Mandela... Harriet Tubman... Frederik Douglas... Nazi genocide... Jesus on the cross.... and how like all these things I too am being prosecuted unjustly.

...and like Jesus, dressed in loincloth, bearded, and spritzing Method cleaner with baby in sling?

by NineInchNachos on 2/9/2009 @ 11:21pm
yes. grapefruit derived cleaner is what the messiah teaches. You should read the bible more Jessica.

The burning in my ears may have just been the high concentration of truth set to melody, just more stimulus than my auditory canal was prepared to handle. Try saddling your melodious truth upon a beat inspired by a different genre, I just wan't feelin' the flow listenin' to those last two tracks.

How about a rap about Tacoma City Council meetings, or the hard knock life of an underground cartoonist on the mean streets of Tacoma?

by marumaruyopparai on 2/10/2009 @ 12:17am
You could get creative with the percussion too, maybe beat on a pot-belly stove like the one illustrated above. Lay it down RR style.

by NineInchNachos on 2/10/2009 @ 12:47am
Would it kill you to download Microsoft Songsmith and lay down your own truth?

Why do I have to be the only divinely inspired one?

I would like to request a real, professor fry living and working virtually review on songsmith.

This is a big deal. This is a giant evil corporation trying to make the music profession obsolete--one can assume to fuck with apple's itunes business model.

Where is Angela J? Izenmans? Where is your voice in the choirs of moral outrage?

Its hard for me to put into words how wonderful life is, now RR's singing is in the world. If that picture is on the album cover I don't see how this album could be anything less than a bestseller.

Am I outraged by these karaoke styled background tracks from MS? No. Because not every one who can write songs is able to play an instrument. A "song" is technically defined as lyrics and melody. The underlying chord structure is the supporting cast - or accompaniment. An infinite number of different "songs" could have been written to that piano track RR chose. I think its kinda great that people who couldn't have otherwise done so will have a chance to practice flexing their songwriting muscles. I think it will only strengthen the music profession because its a nice starting place for people who want to write songs.

by Erik on 2/10/2009 @ 8:39pm
Hey, wasn't there three songs you wrote RR?

Where did the mysterious 3rd song go to? Why did you censor it?

by Dave_L on 2/10/2009 @ 10:07pm
[shaking head] Bok choy, man.

by AngelaJossy on 2/10/2009 @ 11:14pm
Nice "bok choy" usage Dave!

I find it also makes a great battle cry. Picture Mel Gibson's famous Braveheart speech - sword held high, "Bok Choy!!!!!!"

RR Anderson is one of the most curious characters in the UFO lore and the history of underground cartooning. He fought bizarre underground beings in the caves of Alaska, was wounded by a laser before it was invented, and had a background with the clandestine branch of the Tacoma Cartoonists Society.
