Save the Helm Gallery
"Two Guys from the Helm Gallery"
GO ARTS blog in the TNT has a upsetting post about our Helm Gallery friends...
But now they're in trouble. They're not just not making money, they're out of money. They have another 12 months on their lease, but unless they get some funds fast, they'll "just go belly-up," says co-owner Sean Alexander. more >

by Erik on 6/17/2008 @ 12:45pm | I think we need to promptly schedule a Frost Park Chalk Off blow out party there while we still can. Winning chalk off artists could sell battle art, Tacomics, Beautiful Angle prints, Life of Elle memorabilia, fan club kits, and jewelry. Do you still have the Tracer to sell RR? |
by UnstableArt on 6/17/2008 @ 1:10pm | Wow. i had no idea. Perhaps we should try to bump up our Chalk Art exhibit. Blow up some good photos of the chalk art and make some prints of promo pieces. I'd say enough people have seen the chalk entries and affiliated artwork to make them fairly popular. Prints would certainly be affordable buys and could sell well. |
by jcbetty on 6/17/2008 @ 1:42pm | oooh. good ideas!! |
by NineInchNachos on 6/17/2008 @ 1:48pm | tried to send out a list 'save the helm' serve message and got an error... is the listserve working for anybody else? |
by thriceallamerican on 6/17/2008 @ 1:49pm | I would like to just state: excellent Space Quest reference. |
by izenmania on 6/17/2008 @ 1:54pm | I haven't gotten any listserv messages all day so I'm guessing there's a problem. |
by NineInchNachos on 6/17/2008 @ 2:21pm | Jamie, you think that I created this post because I care about helping a great local arts venue out. wrong. I made this post just so I could make this space quest reference that has been burning a hole in my mind for days. my question to tacoma contemporary art enthusiasts: "Are you sure you wanna restart?" |
by Frinklin on 6/17/2008 @ 4:27pm | I just tried to join the Listserv and I keep getting a fatal error message, so it seems to having issues. |
by Erik on 6/17/2008 @ 8:59pm | There are alot of reasons that The Helm need to be saved. One of which it is a great forum for pros or for hobbyist artists to make the transition to a professional at a relatively low cost in Tacoma. The setting was perfect for RR Anderson's Tacomic party Here was the event coverage: i.feedtacoma.com/Erik/rr-anderson-tacomi... ![]() ![]() ![]() www.flickr.com/photos/tacoma-urbanist/se... |
by thriceallamerican on 6/17/2008 @ 9:29pm | No other love for the Roger Wilco?! I guess RR and I will just have to bask in our 1980s computer game l33tness by ourselves...

RR Anderson is one of the most curious characters in the UFO lore and the history of underground cartooning. He fought bizarre underground beings in the caves of Alaska, was wounded by a laser before it was invented, and had a background with the clandestine branch of the Tacoma Cartoonists Society.
