Rumors stopped by the place formerly known as Cafe by the Bay on St. Helens. All of the furniture and equipment has been stripped and the new owners are busy renovating the space. They will offer soups, sandwiches, burgers, pasta, and prime views of the tideflats. Look for the Bayview to open "mid-September" according to the owner.

|This place has a ton of potential with the view that few restaurants in the area have.|

|I predict a "st helens" as well, not that I loved cafe by the bay but Vietnamese is def lacking in stadium district so I enjoyed having it there for that option|

|A pho joint would rock. (I still miss the old owners, willing to put up with a few inconsistencies for such an awesome family friendly place)
Yeah, the menu sounds exactly like 3 or 4 other places in the neighborhood. Not very exciting I'm afraid. Will the pasta/fries, etc be fresh at all or your basic Sysco fare?

|Rumors heard great things about the amazing views at Cafe By the Bay, but never quite made it there. Now under new owners, a new name (Bayview), AND booze - Rumors might find motivation to check out the views.

|Went there with a with a group for lunch. The fries are hand cut, good, and the only fried item on the menu. The cuban sandwich was very good. The Mac and Cheese lunch special looked great. The view is awesome and unique. Overall, pretty good and I will be going back. Excited to try the Gumbo.

I've tried talking several other places into serving handcut fries. Almost coming close to taking my own cutter in to show them how easy it is! I don't understand what the hang-up is. What an easy way to provide something the franchises can't! Then again these are places that also have fluorescent lighting and TVs going all day, maybe my expectations are too high.

I know I just can't get some of my friends to go to the Jive, But the Java Jive cuts real fries from real potatoes with such a cutter, and they do some magic soaking of them before they go in the fryer. Try them alone, or as a side, or as chili-cheese fries, or in a chili-burger. My arteries are hardening just thinking about it.
I'll try the Bayvew, but I will always miss the previous owners of the Cafe. The kids and I will always have good memories of that place.

|Third time's a charm? |
A third owner in as many years has come forward to take over the defunct Bayview.
Even thought the For Sale signs are still in the windows, it looks like someone has applied for a liquor license to operate in the Bayview space. The new name: Laura's Bayview Bar and Grill.

|Cool. This area is hopping with people.|
by Crenshaw Sepulveda on 12/14/2009 @ 9:42am
|Did this hopping start very recently because is sure didn't help the last occupants of this space?|
