Birthday Present

*Flustered content*

I'm so unprepared.  My father-in-law's birthday dinner is tonight (mid 60's?), and I need a gift.  Every year I cheese out and get some golf vest embroidered or something.

This year I'm out to impress.  I want it to be really good, and really Tacoma.  Help me.

I was thinking show, dinner...I  I will look into it with greater detail very shortly, but any ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Season tickets to something?

He likes golf...has everything...retired...old school Tacoma Italian...

Maybe something he and my moth-in-law can do together?

Gift certificate for round(s) of golf at Chambers Bay? That place is pricey and anyone who golfs seems pretty infatuated with the place.

Salish Resort and Spa w/swedish massage. Costco had prepackaged deals. $400.00

Gift certificate to stay at Tacoma's premier new Hotel Murano.

AP - That's what I was thinking. The closest he's come to Chamber's bay is having a bowl of soup in the clubhouse.

Thrice - snark YOU.

Brotha - I think they did the Salish a few years back. Plus I'd REALLY love to show them the fun of Tacoma/Pierce County

Kevin - the hotel and maybe a dinner at Babblin' Babs? I would do Stadium Bistro as well...but...(sadface).

Now that I think about it - not a local hotel. These old school Italians (read: cheap) would wonder why we wasted our money on a hotel in a city they already live in.

OK - just checked out the FT shops - excellent idea Kevin! I never knew that was there (www.dense.steph)

I would absolutely love to get them something locally made. I'll keep looking.

How about the yoda tobacco bong?

by zastica on 4/8/2008 @ 10:43am
You could get him a print of a photograph I took of the sunset over Chamber's Bay...

by thriceallamerican on 4/8/2008 @ 10:52am
1) Why is Yoda orange?
2) I'm not sure they could have made that thing any more phallic.

by intacoma on 4/8/2008 @ 11:00am
He was having to much fun at urban tanning before the photoshoot

by Steph DeRosa on 4/8/2008 @ 11:10am
I think he already has that bong. 'cept it's Jabba, not Yoda.

OK- I'm doing a gift cert to Chamber's Bay. Tee time for 2.

by jcbetty on 4/8/2008 @ 11:16am
that's a pretty suh-wheeet picture!!

by AP on 4/8/2008 @ 11:49am
As an avid non-golfer, I am confident he will love it.

by thriceallamerican on 4/8/2008 @ 11:57am
AP: The round of golf, or the bong? If the latter, I think we have a great new euphemism in "avid non-golfer".

by AP on 4/8/2008 @ 12:02pm
I guess it all depends on how much he likes to get down on the tobacco.. The obvious answer is that he should love both. If he has the Jabba bong already, Yoda seems like the perfect complementary piece. The golf course will be there for years..Yoda may be a limited edition?

I just don't have enough facts at this time. Flip a coin!

by zastica on 4/8/2008 @ 2:28pm
@jcbettty - Thanks!

I should put that up in my shop... Think I'll do that...

by Steph DeRosa on 4/8/2008 @ 2:31pm
What? The shop in SEATTLE?!?!

by thriceallamerican on 4/8/2008 @ 2:32pm
Huh, I thought jcbetty was talking about the bong. I'm really dwelling on this bong thing, I keep assuming everything people say is about it.

Obviously I'm not a golfer.

by Steph DeRosa on 4/8/2008 @ 2:36pm
Dave, what are your prices on your photos? Am I missing it?

Thrice - so do you golf?

by thriceallamerican on 4/8/2008 @ 2:38pm
I'm confused about what kind of golf we're talking about.

by AP on 4/8/2008 @ 3:06pm
I'm interested in Wii golf.

No love for the Lebowski reference 4 comments ago?

by zastica on 4/8/2008 @ 4:53pm
@steph - That one is $25 for an 8x10 matted, but prices vary from photo to photo. I don't have everything up, cause I have thousands of pictures. Basically, anything I have is available. With a couple exceptions.

The FT Shop, here: shop

Damnit! I missed the BL reference. I suck at life.

Dave - thank you :)

I need to try wii golf. I need to try wii, period.

Sorry, I just got here...

by thriceallamerican on 4/8/2008 @ 6:20pm
Thanks, Steph and Izenmania, for validating my effort.

Steph, I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say we want to know what you ended up getting your FIL.

Also, can we expect you to start up the Tacoma Avid Non-Golfer Society anytime soon?

by AP on 4/8/2008 @ 7:53pm
TANGS is born.

by thriceallamerican on 4/8/2008 @ 8:03pm
Nice catch, AP!

by izenmania on 4/8/2008 @ 8:39pm
TANG? Who's got TANG? I want some TANG...

by Steph DeRosa on 4/8/2008 @ 9:32pm
Am I the only mind that goes to the gutter when I hear TANG?
