I started running about six years ago, when I finished the Death Valley Marathon. I've gone back to Death Valley a couple more times for the marathon (last December, Kevin Freitas tagged along), but I prefer the half marathon because (a.) I'm slow but steady, (b.) I can usually finish the half marathon in a couple hours, (c.) and I don't feel quite as beat up as I do after a full marathon.
Yesterday I opted for the Tacoma Half Marathon because it's a fun and hilly course with great things to see along the way (Wright Park, Stadium High School, Ruston Way waterfront). I finished about five minutes slower than the year before, but it was still a blast. It's nice the city has its own namesake marathon. I hope the organizers can keep it going. Congratulations to everyone else who finished.
