Tacoma Photo Contest
Now's your time to shine!
Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls!
I'm pleased to announce the Tacoma Photo Contest! There will be a winner of a fabulous prize in each of 3 categories!
The rules are:
1) The photo MUST be taken by you.
2) One photo per person/account/avatar in each category
3) No Photoshop/Gimp/Whatever allowed except for cropping, scaling and adjusting contrast. That's it. Anything suspicious will be disqualified by the expert panel of judges.
4) Appropriate photos submitted to the appropriate category.
5) Keep it family friendly. While the hookers on Tacoma ave may make a lovely picture, it's not for here.
So now the 3 categories. They are, along with examples taken by me:
CATEGORY ONE: Downtown Tacoma Skyline. Make our fair city look as pretty as she feels. EXAMPLE:

CATEGORY TWO: Tacoma Landmarks. Show us an iconic Tacoma landmark in a whole new light. The T-Dome? The MOG? The Narrows Bridges? Brown & Haley? Stadium HS? Pao's Donuts? It's up to you! EXAMPLE (T-Dome)

CATEGORY THREE: Unique Tacoma. This is the most liberal one. Pick something in T-Town that's unknown, or rarely seen, or "could only be in Tacoma". The more unusual, the better. If needed, please be sure to say what it is exactly that you took a photo of. EXAMPLE (inside the guardhouse on the Murray Morgan)

Since I'm running this contest and providing the prizes, I'm not going to participate. Nor will I be judging either. 100% of the judging will be done impartially by these two lovely ladies, my sisters:

The contest will run until Sunday, December 13th 2009. A winner in each of the 3 categories will be chosen by the girls and announced on December 20th. And yes, it will be possible for one person to win more than one category since my sisters will see the photos without names/avatars attached. Prizes will be awarded immediately thereafter.
To submit your photos, simply post them in this thread along with the intended category for each. Please provide links to full-size versions (flickr or whatever you like).
Good luck, and may you win the fabulous prize!

by Mofo from the Hood on 11/23/2009 @ 10:05pm | Mr. O'Tool, do you come from a family of carnival performers?, you know, like "The Magnificent Flying O'Tools" |
by Thorax O'Tool on 11/23/2009 @ 10:13pm | I often times wish I did. |
by Thorax O'Tool on 11/24/2009 @ 4:56am | Hey, it occurred to me that I forgot to mention what exactly the fabulous prizes are. Winner of the Skyline contest will receive a T-Shirt.* Winner of the Landmark contest will receive a 2010 calendar. Winner of the Unique Tacoma Contest will also receive a 2010 calendar of a different design. All these items are new and custom made for this contest! *Shirt is XL. (cotton shrinks, remember?) |
by fredo on 11/24/2009 @ 7:09am | Do the prizes each have a label which indicates what Union Shop created it, or were they created by those annoying third world workers? |

@ Fredo... Shirt was made in China (but the design was printed in the US), the calendars are made in the US as well. Beyond that, I don't know. |
by Thorax O'Tool on 11/25/2009 @ 5:29pm | C'mon people! More entries! |

by The Jinxmedic on 12/2/2009 @ 3:19pm | You seem to have a dearth of entries. Okay, here's another one- this time of lost McKinley park: www.flickr.com/photos/haus-mausheim/2885... |
by Thorax O'Tool on 12/2/2009 @ 4:11pm | I guess few want to win the FABULOUS PRIZES. |
by Dave_L on 12/2/2009 @ 6:39pm | I won't dig out the one or two I've taken that I like - those few have been used elsewhere. But while on the topic, I'd like to share the photos of a Tacoma gentleman who used to be a neighbor of mine. If you are from the neighborhood, you may have met him.. He's very skilled in a few different areas, and is an especially accomplished photographer. If interested, check out his Tacoma shots from the "View From My Studio Window" gallery as well as some from the other galleries. www.pbase.com/fieldmasterhh/root&view=re... |
by Thorax O'Tool on 12/2/2009 @ 6:52pm | Dude, that first one of the sunrise over the port is AWESOME. |
by Dave_L on 12/2/2009 @ 7:05pm | I knew you would like those Port shots. I like the lenticular cloud photos, too. Anyway, sorry to distract from the competition... |
by Thorax O'Tool on 12/2/2009 @ 11:10pm | Hey no, that's all good. This is about PHOTOS, so you're not distracting. And yes, I like the port photos. Ever been down there in a really thick fog at night? Feels like being in Blade Runner or something. Since the prizes are 2010 calendars and a T-shirt, I woulda thought there'd have been a better turnout. But hey, we have 11 more days... |
