Frost Park Chalk-off

I'll be back.

Could it be that I've at last found an embracing environment in The City of Destiny? I can go out to draw in the rain and hail and there'll be others there? Apparently so, as the Tacoma Urbanist reported for this past Friday's Chalk Art Contest at Frost Park. I'm not from around here, and I've spent most of my time  hunkered down in my cave. It's encouraging to find out just how committed this community is to creative expression. Not something I'm too accustomed to coming from Middle Earth (Better known as the Upper Mid-West).

A schedule conflict and my own uncertainty as to whether or not the contest would still be held under adverse weather conditions prevented me from attending April 18th's showdown. I'll be there next Friday to win back the title.

Do you hear that, Mr. Anderson? That is the sound of inevitability.
...Just a good-natured threat. :)

My god. She beheaded our city cartoonist.

In order to prevail against RR though, she's going to have to be able to draw something better than his submission last week:

I don't recall RR's hair being quite that long... she must've beheaded someone else.

I, per usual, will be non-competitively doodling wherever I see fit.

Hmmmm. I am going have to see if I can find a local sponsor for this week.

The possibilities.

Lol, all open to interpretation - as art tends to be subject to. :) Heads are so much easier to dangle from a pony tail.

Clearly, she kidnapped him and tortured him for months, waiting for his hair to grow out just so she could decapitate him and hold his disembodied head menacingly in just that way.

I look forward to this battle of Titans...I hope the Beautiful Angle people show up again, too.

No, but the confusion is certainly understandable. ;)

I got it, I'm just now living in fear that she'll come after me due to my easily grip-able mane...

Heh, my initial response after reading that was, "I am no man!", though I failed to recognize the verbatim quote for what it actually was. Shame on me!

Say, is there any surplus chalk from last week's challenge, or should I get some backup?

Surplus chalk stock is good. Though If weather looks good there will probably be more folks and less chalk to go around. So backups are always wise.

See ya Friday comrade!

(the skilled chalker always carries a few extra sticks up their sleeve )

Done with Kunstler, on to the Frost Park Chalk-Off Challenge on Friday!

I think I saw RR pick up some of the extra chalk lying around after the last contest.

BTW, Lance Kagey demonstrated to all of us that weather is no barrier to the chalk contest.

His nearly winning entry survived several rain and hail storms. Fortunately, it got pressure washed off so that the space is available now.

Frost Park has a number of vertical cement panels available that are impervious to the weather and are far less porous than the sidewalk.

I just talked to the corporate office and PSP will be donating a gift certificate for one Large PSP Specialty Pizza to this weeks Chalk-off winner.

(Winner to be determined by popular vote, not superdelegates.)

Haha, thanks for the kind offer Jim. Now things are getting serious. Starving artists will soon be fed! ;)

Sweet baby elvis! Thanks Jim, way to fire up the base. (and no worries. Superdelegates are just a paranoid rumor.)

Thanks Jim. That's awesome.

You may want to show up tomorrow at Frost Park so you can get your sponsor photo. I will also include it in tomorrow's post about the event.

The winner usually takes a day to figure out though.

Jim from PSP chased me down on Commerce and gave me this to hold in trust for the winner of tomorrow's Frost Park Chalk Off:

The prize will look something similar to this:
