I know this post may get some flack, but is anyone else sick of the constant frostpark posts? Maybe next year they could start their own blog. Or am i just being a big jerk?

|Flack, now you haz it.|

|It'll be pretty quiet for a while. We're done chalking there 'til April. It's a really good time and I recommend you stop by sometime if you can. Otherwise, going forward, we may be able to devise ways to consolidate posts regarding that but it'll come down to how much time I have to program such things. :)|

|IMO, heck, this post doesn't make you a big jerk. But technically, I think this post about Frost Park posts just added to the saturation. :-o|
by chrism39 on 11/10/2008 @ 6:24pm
|I do feel like a jerk, it was one of the moments when I should not have clicked the post. I was very glad when no one had commented. I hoped no one had noticed my jerkiness.
Maybe if I participated, the jillions of posts would not have bothered me.
I vow to participate next year.

|crenshaw what does that mean?|

|Chris - It's a reference to locats. You have to know it to get it. Check it out: icanhascheezburger.com/|

|Indeed, ensie has it covered unless you want to know about the crenshaw thing.|

|Ensie thanks for the link and I love your discussions with 5 views. I can't stand him and I am not as good at holding my temper as you are.|

|No worries. It's weird. With every comment I just became more and more calm. Maybe it's because his arguments became more and more stupid. I'm waiting to see if I get banned for supposedly veering too far off topic.|

I think there has only been one in the last 10 days.
However, there has been too many posts on restaurant reviews, "Tacoma Photo of the Day," "Flickr Photo of the Day" and pointless posts on "The Traveler" and on allegedly children friendly places. Many of these have questionable redeemable value. Plus, many are duplicative.
Also, posts on Ruston have inundated Feed Tacoma even though Ruston is not even in Tacoma.
Worse, Feed Tacoma is flooded daily from "Spew" and "Exit 133" who often make multiple posts blowing into Feed Tacoma each day. Sometimes these two blogs make up nearly half of the posts on Feed Tacoma!
Yesterday, "Spew" posted 6 separate posts feeding into Feed Tacoma.
Finally, unanimous blogs such as "Rumors" should be eliminated.
Here's some proposed rules:
1) Eliminate unanimous blogs or blogs mentioning something outside Tacoma City limits.
2) Permit each contributor of Feed Tacoma to have 2 posts per week.
3) Each post should have quality content and include at least one picture with no abuse of font size.
There needs to be more rules now otherwise the popular posts with little or no merit are going to continue to dominate.
For instance, the post:
"President Barack Hussein Obama: VICTORY LAP (of REVENGE) nsfw" received 42 comments and no doubt a ton of traffic yet had very questionable merit and was openly obscene.
Yet, the "Looking Glass" post on "Tacoma's Heritage" had great educational content, geared to attracting visitors to Tacoma yet received no comments:
That's not right.

|The original frost park post was Oct 25th.
Ensie, I just want him to post something new, so i can comment on it. I have never been this interested in a blog before. Maybe I am not used to conversing with such an ultra conservative and it fascinates me.
by NineInchNachos on 11/10/2008 @ 9:19pm
|Ruston is Tacoma. They just don't know it yet.
Rules are for babies. We don't need another nanny state blog. People should be able to post whatever. The market will "self-correct" any square pegs trying to fit into our round holes.

You sound like a laissez-faire capitalist republican.
Unregulated markets are what destroyed the economy.

|The prankster/Tacomic/traveller/avatar posts could still be on Feed Tacoma. However, right now they are dominating Feed Tacoma. |
Perhaps they could be placed under the "humor" section in Feed Tacoma forum with posts allowed on Sunday evenings between 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. after the normal daily posts had been read.
Anyone really motivated to read them, could simply navigate though the forum section once a week and read them.
Right now, the "jokester" posts are getting in the way of the City of Tacoma press releases and News Tribune posts (containing real news) that are being posted that are important for people to read without interference from tomfoolery.
by AngelaJossy on 11/10/2008 @ 9:42pm
|Erik: I know you must be joking about making rules for posting blogs on FeedTacoma. Some people may not recognize your sarcasm though. It almost sounded like you meant it.|

|Tacoma Urbanist is just frustrated because he doesn't get to take sexy cell phone pictures of pretty-lady chalk artists anymore. And honestly who wouldn't be?|

Oh. Ok. Sorry about that.
Actually, it seems as if the number of postings have waned on Feed Tacoma.
Through the winter, we can always look back through the archives though of great pictures:

|FT is going to evolve, and I don't think rules or limits will help. You're being too hard on yourself, chrism39. You're not the only one who has expressed feelings about the excessive FP promotion and posts, and while most of us have regretted a post we have made, it's a valid opinion. I think it's all cool and is a part of the self-regulating. (Or perhaps I shouldn't be trying to think this late at night.) Sure, coming down some Friday might help understand and suck you into what Erik calls the vortex. But I don't think anyone should be offended by your opinon - Even if it was a momentary spike. Though it is true, FP is hard to describe and understand if you haven't hung out there. Walls move, minds do too.|

Next year will be telling for Frost Park. The newness and gee whiz factor will have gone. The park will have to be taken back again which will take some doing.
FT is going to evolve, and I don't think rules or limits will help.
FT and FP had some close calls, but survived and thrived for 30 episodes in a self regulating, self pruning and sustaining manner. Had the contest been juried, moved to Tollefson Plaza or had more rules imposed, FP chalkings would have likely died in short order.

|Chris, I like your postings including this one.
I'm one of the few feed Tacoma readers who doesn't really care about the day to day chalkings at Frost Park. But I don't begrudge anyone who wants to blog on that topic, its a good community building activity. The more topics, the more spirited discussions, the better.
by thriceallamerican on 11/11/2008 @ 9:02am
|@Erik: Eliminate unanimous blogs or blogs mentioning something outside Tacoma City limits.
It boggles my mind to even comprehend what "eliminating unanimous blogs" would even mean... I invite everybody to chew on that for a moment.
For the record, I'm a big fan of anonymous blogs, it keeps things weird.
by izenmania on 11/11/2008 @ 9:54am
|Hmm.. perhaps Erik wishes to foster debate by only allowing posts on which people disagree?|
by ixia on 11/11/2008 @ 10:28am
|@ Crenshaw Sepulveda: "unless you want to know about the crenshaw thing" -
yes, please - give it away.

|I think it's all cool and is a part of the self-regulating. (Or perhaps I shouldn't be trying to think this late at night.)
Yep. I think that's the main difference between Frost Park events, Feed Tacoma in general and msm and other santioned art events.
Art commissioned events are primarily art that has been determined by a panel as to what people should like, and has been objectively determined to have "merit." Frost Park art was about trying to create an atmosphere where experimental could occur without prior approval or preconceptions.
MSM media, including blogs, contain advertiser approved and santioned content. Even blogs without adversiters often censure content. Feed Tacoma, to date, has so far has been pretty content neutral in handling posts.
Although 5 Views certainly represents a minority political position in the Tacoma blogosphere, and apparently censors comments, his content still comes into Feed Tacoma without any different designation in the feed.

|Thank goodness we aren't unanimously anonymous, although I'm tempted to join that crowd some days.
KEEP FEED FREE...of rules, that is.

|Free as in speech, not as in beer. Though, if someone can work out that latter bit...|
