Monkeying Around

Last night was the 100th Monkey party, and what a night it was. Stepping into JazzBones was like walking into an LA nightclub. There were so many  people there that I actually had to force my way up to the bar to get a  drink. Later on as I was scouting the food table, I heard one guy mention  that there was no wine there. Duh, dude. You're in a bar.

With the hundreds of people stuffed into JazzBones' small downstairs, it was quite the event. Everyone seemed to be having a great time interacting with the people at their tables, drinking a bit, watching the ArtSlam slides, and later on listening to Debrah Page.

I however, never got to hear the band play. With everyone engaged and nowhere to sit, I quitetly finished my drink, and headed over to the Parkway for a bite to eat and a good conversation. (Aside: Why did I see several football-player size guys ordering pear cider? Isn't that a girly drink?)

It takes a certain kind of person to be unattached and able to thrive in the kind of situation that 100th Monkey is... but I just wasn't feeling it last night. But many kudos to whoever organized it - 100th Monkey is the place to be for a good party.

Your roving art reporter,

Chuck

100th Monkey didn't happen?

Given how tight it sounded in there I'm sure toting around any decent camera equip to light such a dark place would be a pain. Still haven't been to a 100th Monkey myself -- I'd like to give it a go sometime but what do people really think about those events these days?

It all sounds far too trendy for my tastes. I cannot function in a packed space like that unless collisions are an intended part of the atmosphere.

Guess I'm more turtle than monkey.

i wish the 100th monkey things actually had something to do with monkeys because i love monkeys.

Okay, secret plan time: next time 100th Monkey happens, we secretly show up with a barrel full of 100 monkeys and open it in the middle of the room, then watch the carnage from afar. Guaranteed to be at least as fun as a barrel of monkeys.

what izenmania said about crowded spaces.

we went once. It was fun in an "oh, I guess I'm just not really a party person" sort of way. Nothing wrong with it, just too much for me.

Sounds like a great idea. How "performance art" of it.
